Topic Dog Boards / Health / Cleaning long coat bitch in season
- By K5Kees Date 29.09.08 10:46 UTC
My bitch has come into season for the 3rd time, and the previous two times she has been very good at cleaning herself and i only had to rinse her with warm water from time to time. This time she has decided she isnt going to clean herself so I am going to have to do it for her. She has big white trousers that stain VERY easily. The discharge also gets stuck in her coat. What would be the best cleaner to use? I obviously dont want to cause any irritation/infection. I have been cleaning her with straight warm water on cotton wool with the occasional 'shower' and although this removes the majority of the mess the coat is still staining. Any tips/tricks would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I have a long coated breed too .They are very clean but can still get a little grubby around the rear ,you are doing the right thing with warm water  ( I use the strong  kitchen roll but no soap ) then dry thoroughly  ,for the hocks if they are yellowing just give a dip in a bowl with some shampoo to keep them clean and prevent staining.

After the season is over you could trim the private area to keep it clean .

I used to cut my girls bloomers off, they grow back just as thick and long.

will continue with the warm water washes. I wont cut her coat because she is shown and it has taken long enough to get her trousers back after her moult. Any recommendations for an after season whitening shampoo would be appreciated. Thanks for the help

K5Kees, I have used Shaws White Coat Shampoo on my Samoyed girl and it has worked very well.
