- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 25.09.08 19:20 UTC
It was the suspension.  That's why our dogs have been called only survivor and true survivor in the last two litters.  Weird because it was males in both litters the girls survived.
- By white lilly [gb] Date 25.09.08 19:29 UTC
it was the 2 boys in this litter that was very ill too !! that is sooooo weird , and i know of a litter of all boys that died aday after having dronital ,thay were 6weeks old too :( im never going to use it again !!!!

- By annastasia [gb] Date 26.09.08 11:52 UTC
Yes they had their 6 weeks worming done last week, some were a touch loose for a day, but all fine now, they eating like pigs and im tempted to give them more, but then i tend to overfeed them and give them the runs, so will gradually increase food,  when do you have your puppies on 3 meals a day?
Im so glad your babies are ok now, what a nightmare you have been through with your litter, have you ever read the poem A BREEDERS POEM? had me in tears yesterday, so true it is.
Anyway hopefully your babies are all fine now, they will soon regain the weight.
- By white lilly [gb] Date 26.09.08 12:51 UTC

A BREEDERS TALE

I love my little puppy he makes my house a home, he always is my best friend, I never feel alone.
He makes me smile, he makes me laugh, he fills my heart with love.
Did some breeder breed him? Was he sent from up above?
I,ve never been a breeder, or seen life through their eyes, I hold my little puppy, just sit and criticise.
I,ve never known their anguish, I,ve never felt their pain, the caring of their charges, through snow or wind or rain.
I,ve never waited all night long for puppies to be born, the stress and trepidation when their still not there by dawn......
I,ve never felt the heartache of a little life in my hands, a darling little puppy that weighs just 60 grams!
Should you do this instead or that? Or just pray to God?
Alone you fight, and hope one day he,ll grow into a big dog, bring joy to another being and make a house a home.
You know it,s all just up to you, you fight this fight alone.
Formula, bottle, heating pads, you've got to get this right, two hourly feeds for this little mite throughout the day and night, in your heart you know it, you'll surely loose this fight., to save this little baby, but God willing you might......
Day one he's in there fighting you say a silent prayer, day two and three  he's doing well with lots of loving care,  day four and five he's still alive your hopes soar to the heavens!  Day six he slips away again, dies in your hands day seven.
You take this little angel and bury him alone, with aching heart and burning tears (and an exhausted groan) you ask yourself why do this? Why suffer all the pain? But see the joy that puppies bring, it really self explains!
So when you think of breeders and label them with greed, think what they sometimes endure to fill anothers needs, and when you buy a puppy, with pounds and pence you part, you pay with only money.......
We pay with all our hearts.

THE ABOVE POEM IS DEDICATED TO THE LITTLE ONES (ANGES)WE HAVE LOST AT BIRTH OR SHORTLY THEREAFTER.

- By Boxacrazy [in] Date 27.09.08 18:22 UTC
I've wormed two litters with drontal suspension and never had any problems.
- By white lilly [gb] Date 27.09.08 18:27 UTC
hi boxacrazy ive had problems with all 3 of my litters but didnt realise it was the dronital till now ,but the last 2 wasnt as bad as this time ,i and the vet thought the last poorly pup wasnt going to make it but thank god he did and is doing very well now :) good job not every1 does or it would never be used again , but form what ive read the same can happen with other wormers too .
- By annastasia [gb] Date 28.09.08 00:24 UTC
Hi Joanne as i said ive never had probs with drontal neither, i suppose people swear by different treatments,  everyone is different, i dont know what to do now? i have raised 9 litters on drontal (different mothers of course) no problems.
- By annastasia [gb] Date 28.09.08 00:28 UTC
Hiya Joanne, your female will tone up soon,  i was worried with our mother, we had been away for 6 days, and when we came back still full of milk, now she is still hanging a little and will let pups on for seconds, but then tells them no more milk for you. mother knows best, she so experienced she knows how she feels, half her puppies go to new homes this week.
- By white lilly [gb] Date 28.09.08 10:57 UTC
hi annastasia well another 1 of our girls as the runs this morning so its got to be a bug ?i think when the boys got it last week it was made worse because of the worming and not the womings fault my kids are getting it to and i feel alittle iffi this morning

can pups and humans get the same bugs ? x x x x x
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 28.09.08 11:13 UTC
Hi it started with scratching of the head, eyes closing and one poor lad's head swelled up.  This was within a day of giving the worming treatment, similiar thing with both litters, all the next day.  For some weird reason only the girls survived (two boys and one girl in each litter), but all went down with similiar symptoms.  Vets couldn't make it out but there again they didn't seem that interested in investigating it either!
- By white lilly [gb] Date 28.09.08 11:34 UTC
thats awlful :( would cost the vets too much money everything is about money sadly :(
- By annastasia [gb] Date 28.09.08 12:17 UTC
Ah hope you are well soon Joanne, and the puppies too, try natural yoghurt this firms them up. dont know if dogs and humans can get the same bug?
- By munrogirl76 Date 28.09.08 12:47 UTC

> can pups and humans get the same bugs ?

Depends on the bug - some yes. Campylobacter is one that both can get - so might be worth getting vets to send off a faeces sample if it is going through them all....
- By white lilly [gb] Date 28.09.08 14:27 UTC
thankyou annastasia x

- By annastasia [gb] Date 29.09.08 00:29 UTC
Hiya Joanne, going back 3 years now, we had a guy buy 2nd pick of litter off us Nero was 13 weeks old when he bought him, through a friend of a friend, pup was fit and healthy when he left, 3 weeks later we get a call, (off a vet) pup is going to be PTS he is so poorly, owner had dumped him at the vet and didnt want to pay any vet bills, he even told his kids the pup were dead and burned all his things in front of th kids,  so us as breeders were contacted to see if we would pay for treatment. of course we said yes, pup was initially treated for parvo, negative result, compylobachter was diagnosed (it never came from us as all other pups were fine) it turned out pup caught it from his older dog. Nero was on a drip and in vets 4 days, heartbreaking to see him so sick, he couldnt even stand up for 2 days, vet said 50/50 if he live, he did pull through and we were allowed to take him back home with us, big problem then, he passed it onto all our other 6 dogs, resulting in voilent runs, to treat all dogs and puppy £500, eventually it was a happy ending for the little chap.  it is contagious very, as i caught it off the dogs too, thank God it 3 years ago.
Oh and buyer wanted his money back for pup also after all this, we gave it back as he a bad man and dont want a reputation as being bad breeders, he didnt desereve 1p, hope he gets his bad lou.
Oh forgot to say puppy was insured but he never activated it neither, also all paperwork was still in our name, oh went round weeks later and give him what for, b''''''d
- By white lilly [gb] Date 29.09.08 06:07 UTC
omg thats so awlful ,all the pups are doing well now i rang vets and thay said if it was that pups would still be poorly ,as this bug only lasted 24hours and none of them have had the runs since , that must of been a a horrible time for you :( ....how dare he want his money back !!!! hun what goes around comes around and im a very big bliever in this so he will 1day get whats coming !!!! take care ,joanne x x x
- By annastasia [gb] Date 29.09.08 08:53 UTC
Yes hope he does, it was a horrible time, thankfully happy ending. glad your puppies are on the mend now, take care
- By munrogirl76 Date 29.09.08 13:41 UTC
Campylobacter was just an example of a bug that can transmit people to dogs or vice versa, though it is a gut one. Long as puppies are on the mend, that's the main thing. :-)
- By white lilly [gb] Date 03.10.08 16:33 UTC
thankyou munrogirl i know :) :)

- By Brainless [gb] Date 03.10.08 16:38 UTC
It does help if your keeping one, the last one apart from mine goes next weekend, and I can concentrate on training our pup.
- By barneyfoz [gb] Date 07.10.08 21:15 UTC
3 of my pups went last week, this was my 1st litter and it broke my heart to see them go, I cried for over an hour, its funny how you can get so attached to pups you have only had for 8 weeks.
