Apart from the first few days when the invariably have to be dragged, almost kicking and screaming, into the garden a few times a day to make themselves comfortable, I always let my nursing bitches dictate when they go out for walks. They usually appear by the door when I'm putting the other dogs on their leads after about a week, so I take them for a short constitutional then. At that stage the pups have got excellent immunity through their mother's milk and are at no more risk of disease from their mother than than they are from anyone else who leaves the house.
A stir-crazy, stressed bitch isn't good for the puppies.
