I've been bit on the neck by some little horrible thing yesterday whilst walking in the park.  My neck is really swollen and hard, what's the best thing for insect bites?  It's burning like mad at the moment and kept me up most of the night!

I find either aloe vera or witch hazel gels very soothing.  Also taking a piriton or similar seems to reduce the reaction to the sting.

Dianne, I was bitten by this little brown moth like creature on Monday, my wrist swelled up and went really hard, and the rash went half way up my arm, was really sore too !! I took anti histamines and my mum sprayed this bite stuff on which hurt like hell but it did go down in a couple of days.

Ohh thanks guys was just about to go out to get something for it as it's the same as yours ClaireyS very hard and swollen but it's absolutely bucketing it down outside!

Watch that it doesn't need antibiotics from your doctor.  I was bitten on the back of my left hand last year and the swelling went from my fingers up past my wrist, I was given a course of antibiotics from the Dr and some anti-histamines.

Did you get it sorted?  I often get a bad reaction to any bite but horseflies are the worst.  It comes up in large weal, is very hard, and I get swelling quite quickly, often with a creeping red line that looks like an infection.  My most recent one last week was on my wrist but the swelling extended onto my fingers, round my lower arm up to my elbow and even made my shoulder hurt.

Try After Bite: see here http://www.simplicityhealth.co.uk/afterbite.asp

I didn't get it on fast enough this time, as I was away from home, but this will stop the problem almost immediately.  I'm usually never without it!

It's much better today, thankfully.  Thanks for asking.

I got stung by a bee yesterday!!!

you'd have laughed if you'd seen me, I had just taken 2 of the dogs out in the garden, went to get the other 3, had standard cargo style trousers on, not particularly baggy (can you guess where I'm going with this??...)

anyway, just set off with other 3, felt something around my leg, didn't think much of it, a few paces later realised something was in my trouser leg, tried shaking the trouser a bit....a few more steps...then heard a buzzing noise....

EEEEK!!!!

quickly re-traced my steps so I could take my trousers down without any neighbours seeing...torn a nail in my haste....but too late the bee stung me on the front of my thigh before I could drop my trews!!!! It didn't leave it's sting in so maybe it only stung me a little bit before it was released, as it certainly flew off...I think it was a honey bee, definitely not a wasp, small and furry, pale yellow and brown

so I dashed back into the kitchen (Skoll was very interested in my trews round my knees, I think he thought the bee was still there, he has a "thing" for bees and buzzing insects!) wasn't sure what to put on it so had some lemon juice in the fridge which i dashed over it, came up in 3 small little lumps which went down again quite quickly

first time I've been stung by a bee, I got goosebumps when it stung me, I'm assuming from adrenalin?? But at least I know I'm not allergic and my leg hasn't dropped off - LOL

am more upset about my nail as they are all a nice length at the moment and now I have a short one....

:) :)  I can just see that scene now.

Anton has a thing for bees as well.  He bought one to me in his mouth a few weeks ago and it was still alive and it just flew off when he dropped it!

I buy Boots own insect repella spray it all over, smells like lemons, also they do the same in a baby roll on that is good for the face and neck.
.
I get eaten a live by all these vile little mits/nats.

Warm wet weather they are breeding like mad. try TCP.
