Good luck, shouldn't be too long now.
- By kellystewart198 [gb] Date 29.04.08 12:29 UTC
well we have 1 boy so far, she is a little over zealous with him..he has about an inch of umbilcal cord but i think she keeps trying to chew more? or maybe try to lick it to stop the bleeding should i be concerned?

He is also a little quiet, makes the odd squeak but has started looking for milk too

Wow this is rivetting stuff!  Congratulations on the little boy!  What you are describing sounds perfectly normal to me - my girl was like this with her puppys' umbilical cords and they ended up with virtually nothing there but they were absolutely fine.  Also her pups were fairly mute and inactive for the first hour but soon got going once they got the idea of feeding.

I'm sure others with more experience than me will be able to add to this.  Good luck with the rest of the litter and if Mum gets tired, try some glucose water if you have any glucose powder.  It's a bit like red bull for dogs! ;-)
- By Astarte Date 29.04.08 12:43 UTC
yay! congrats to you and mum, let us know as the rest come in!
- By kellystewart198 [gb] Date 29.04.08 12:45 UTC
lol he is his dad's spitting image! absol gorgeous...she is quite clumsy with him but again I assume this is normal as first time. She is panting like mad again so I think another one on the way i next 30 mins!

Will keep you all updated

Just got back from two dog walks, then straight to the CD forum to see if anything happened!!! :) :)
Oh wish i could pop round kelly, make you a cuppa and praise your girl, oh excited excited excited!!!
- By kellystewart198 [gb] Date 29.04.08 12:52 UTC
Ah she is doing so well, a little rough and hap hazard but doting on her. Just waiting on the rest showing up now lol
- By Brainless [gb] Date 29.04.08 12:57 UTC
In Response to kellystewart198

Have you got any glucose in the house.  I always make some up to give my girls in a bit of puppy milk to keep their energy levels up, especially if they have had a long first stage.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 29.04.08 13:00 UTC
the seeming roughness is to stimulate the pup, it is a good idea to rub them vigorously with a towel, not just to dry but to stimulate the lungs to expand properly.
- By kellystewart198 [gb] Date 29.04.08 13:00 UTC
No i dont, i have puppy milk but not glucose...anything I can use to substitute it?
- By dawn 445 [gb] Date 29.04.08 13:01 UTC
just back from shopping a very very quick shop as was in a hurry to see if there was any news ,great news on your boy ,hope all goes well with the others

You could use normal sugar but the problem is dissolving it.  You could try dissolving it in boiling water then allowing it to cool.... or have you got someone who can pop down the chemists for you to get you some glucose?  I got mine from Boots.
- By AnnieM [gb] Date 29.04.08 13:09 UTC
Gosh this is exciting, my girl is due May 23rd, so this is really useful info.

Let us know when more arrive.  :)
- By Gemini05 Date 29.04.08 13:12 UTC
yipeeee must have missed your post on the first born!!!
well done!! keep them coming!!!

don't want to teach you how to suck eggs, but as Brainless says, give pups a good rub with a towel to get their lungs going, clear their mouths with your fingers very gently, and I found when my girl was consintrating (sp) on the next delivery of a pup, I put the other pup in a warm box next to her so that she did not sit, or walk on him. But she could still see him and make sure he was ok xx
- By Brainless [gb] Date 29.04.08 13:14 UTC
Have you any honey in the house, as that will disolve better than sugar.
- By kellystewart198 [gb] Date 29.04.08 13:21 UTC
honey it is then...2nd here a girl!! :D
- By calmstorm Date 29.04.08 13:25 UTC
WOW :) :)

Just a thought, sugar disolves fast in a cuppa tea, could she have cooled ones of that? I mean the bitch LOL....well maybe the owner too :) :) :)
- By K4kate [gb] Date 29.04.08 13:32 UTC
Thought you'd been quiet for a while so I had my suspicions another was on the way - congrats on the girl!  Any ideas on how many you are expecting?
- By Astarte Date 29.04.08 13:32 UTC
hooray!
- By killickchick Date 29.04.08 13:32 UTC
OOH hows everything going ? just got in from work and straight on here to see whats happening :)
Any furbabies yet? you know we are all going 'come on, come on' :) :)
- By Blue Date 29.04.08 13:34 UTC
Good news.  Key thing is to get them all dry. ( I actually use a hair dryer ) but it depends on size of breed I guess.
- By killickchick Date 29.04.08 13:34 UTC
WOW didn't see all the other posts....well done :) :)
- By Merlot [in] Date 29.04.08 13:42 UTC
Congrats on the new family growing as we speak! Your afternoon will be such a wonderful time, enjoy it. Hope all goes well from now on..any idea how many you are expecting?
I give an egg mixed in a little warm milk during birth to my girls they do seem to appreciate it, you could stir a little honey in to give energy.
Good luck.
Aileen.
- By Nova Date 29.04.08 13:46 UTC
Gosh, I am not getting much work done this afternoon. Entering one entry form and then checking on the count thus far. Think I need another cupper, goodness knows how Kelly will be feeling.
- By kellystewart198 [gb] Date 29.04.08 13:51 UTC
still no sign of number 3 lol but first 2 are doing well mya has settled really well and is letting them suckle and they are nice and dry now on a heat pad.

oh she is panting maybe number 3 on way.

Vet could see 4 at anyone time but im thinkin there are 6! So far both are agouti colored same as dad so there should be 2 wolf grey and possibly a red (i hope..i want a red lol)

K
- By Brainless [gb] Date 29.04.08 14:14 UTC
Have you seen newborn pups in your breed.  For example Finnish Spitz are born mousey brown and don't go red for a few weeks, so I would hold off on noting the colours just yet.
- By kellystewart198 [gb] Date 29.04.08 14:18 UTC
Yeah I am familiar with their colors at birth and how they changed.....3rd is here...and wolf grey it is another wee girl just like her mum!

So im thinking will be another wolf grey and hopefully that elusive red :D

Oh man this is so exciting lol :D
- By Reesy [gb] Date 29.04.08 14:22 UTC
Any more news.  I'm so excited for you.  My girls litter is due Thursday I hate the waiting part.
- By kellystewart198 [gb] Date 29.04.08 14:25 UTC
no sonner had the 3rd popped out but there was the 4th lol another agouti and another girl!!
:D
- By Astarte Date 29.04.08 14:26 UTC
ohh, so chuffed for you!
- By K4kate [gb] Date 29.04.08 14:27 UTC
Wow another girly - how lovely!  I ended up with 3 boys and only 1 girl, although whoever said girls were calmer and more homely haven't seen this little madam!  She is the ring leader for everything naughty and very vocal!
- By Reesy [gb] Date 29.04.08 14:29 UTC
oh well done Mum. Is mum coping ok?
- By kellystewart198 [gb] Date 29.04.08 14:36 UTC

How exciting, so pleased its going well :-)
- By kellystewart198 [gb] Date 29.04.08 15:36 UTC
Things have slowed down now...there is definetly at least one more inside as I can see it moving. Thats been about an hour since girl number 4 came out so guessing it will be in the next hour or so...she hasnt been bearing down so im not too worried at this stage.

Thanks for all your support guys!
