Good luck, shouldn't be too long now.
well we have 1 boy so far, she is a little over zealous with him..he has about an inch of umbilcal cord but i think she keeps trying to chew more? or maybe try to lick it to stop the bleeding should i be concerned?
He is also a little quiet, makes the odd squeak but has started looking for milk too

Wow this is rivetting stuff! Congratulations on the little boy! What you are describing sounds perfectly normal to me - my girl was like this with her puppys' umbilical cords and they ended up with virtually nothing there but they were absolutely fine. Also her pups were fairly mute and inactive for the first hour but soon got going once they got the idea of feeding.
I'm sure others with more experience than me will be able to add to this. Good luck with the rest of the litter and if Mum gets tired, try some glucose water if you have any glucose powder. It's a bit like red bull for dogs! ;-)

yay! congrats to you and mum, let us know as the rest come in!
lol he is his dad's spitting image! absol gorgeous...she is quite clumsy with him but again I assume this is normal as first time. She is panting like mad again so I think another one on the way i next 30 mins!
Will keep you all updated
Kelly

Just got back from two dog walks, then straight to the CD forum to see if anything happened!!! :) :)
Oh wish i could pop round kelly, make you a cuppa and praise your girl, oh excited excited excited!!!
Ah she is doing so well, a little rough and hap hazard but doting on her. Just waiting on the rest showing up now lol

Have you got any glucose in the house. I always make some up to give my girls in a bit of puppy milk to keep their energy levels up, especially if they have had a long first stage.

the seeming roughness is to stimulate the pup, it is a good idea to rub them vigorously with a towel, not just to dry but to stimulate the lungs to expand properly.
No i dont, i have puppy milk but not glucose...anything I can use to substitute it?
just back from shopping a very very quick shop as was in a hurry to see if there was any news ,great news on your boy ,hope all goes well with the others

You could use normal sugar but the problem is dissolving it. You could try dissolving it in boiling water then allowing it to cool.... or have you got someone who can pop down the chemists for you to get you some glucose? I got mine from Boots.

Gosh this is exciting, my girl is due May 23rd, so this is really useful info.
Let us know when more arrive. :)

yipeeee must have missed your post on the first born!!!
well done!! keep them coming!!!
don't want to teach you how to suck eggs, but as Brainless says, give pups a good rub with a towel to get their lungs going, clear their mouths with your fingers very gently, and I found when my girl was consintrating (sp) on the next delivery of a pup, I put the other pup in a warm box next to her so that she did not sit, or walk on him. But she could still see him and make sure he was ok xx

Have you any honey in the house, as that will disolve better than sugar.
honey it is then...2nd here a girl!! :D

Just a thought, sugar disolves fast in a cuppa tea, could she have cooled ones of that? I mean the bitch LOL....well maybe the owner too :) :) :)

Good news. Key thing is to get them all dry. ( I actually use a hair dryer ) but it depends on size of breed I guess.

WOW didn't see all the other posts....well done :) :)

Congrats on the new family growing as we speak! Your afternoon will be such a wonderful time, enjoy it. Hope all goes well from now on..any idea how many you are expecting?
I give an egg mixed in a little warm milk during birth to my girls they do seem to appreciate it, you could stir a little honey in to give energy.
Good luck.

Gosh, I am not getting much work done this afternoon. Entering one entry form and then checking on the count thus far. Think I need another cupper, goodness knows how Kelly will be feeling.
still no sign of number 3 lol but first 2 are doing well mya has settled really well and is letting them suckle and they are nice and dry now on a heat pad.
oh she is panting maybe number 3 on way.
Vet could see 4 at anyone time but im thinkin there are 6! So far both are agouti colored same as dad so there should be 2 wolf grey and possibly a red (i hope..i want a red lol)
K

Have you seen newborn pups in your breed. For example Finnish Spitz are born mousey brown and don't go red for a few weeks, so I would hold off on noting the colours just yet.
Yeah I am familiar with their colors at birth and how they changed.....3rd is here...and wolf grey it is another wee girl just like her mum!
So im thinking will be another wolf grey and hopefully that elusive red :D
Oh man this is so exciting lol :D
