My bitch missed on a mating done in the summer, she was a the stud for three days and was mated a handful of times with one actual tie. When I went to collect her(we dropped her off as the stud lives a long way from our home) the stud owner said she had started to get a weepy eye.
On further examination she had a corneal ulcer, which dispite attempts by the vet at treating it, ruptured horribly and she had to be refered to a specialist to save the eye. Thankfully it all went amazingly well given the circumstances and the eye was saved.
Im guessing the stress and medications scuppered any chances of a pregnancy, anything that may have started would've been absorbed. Just as well really, I couldnt imagine her trying to deal with pups and a healing eye. I was in two minds about getting her to the vets for a jab to cause a miscarriage, just in case. Stressful doesnt even begin to describe it!
However the stud offered a second mating on the next season so this time I stayed with her and just had the one mating. I couldnt risk leaving her just in case.
This time she has taken and is currently looking like shes swallowed a football! All very exciting and I'm sure she'll do just as well as she did her last litter.
So dont give up hope on your bitches, with a bit of investigation to rule out bacterial infections and low sperm counts I'm sure it'll all be fine :)
