Well done Diane but seeing your pic in OD - you look pretty good already!!! and the dogs dogs look great too :)

Had a bad weekend weight watching wise for me - chinese and wine :(  so hope Wednesday isn't a disaster!
- By rachelsetters Date 21.01.08 10:38 UTC
You and me both Claire!!!  but back on track today  i hope!
- By rachelsetters Date 21.01.08 10:39 UTC
Well done Linda!  that's fabulous!

Well done Diane :)

I've lost 2lbs in a week and didn't have to try tooooo hard - just resisted the temptation to restock on the Mackies LOL.  Unfortunately since goodies are my main downfall this will not necessarily be a long lasting success story (particularly iffy when I'm drawn to celebrate with a Mars bar :-D :-D :-D ) but it's encouraging!

Wow, well done everyone who is losing the lbs!  I am once again an abject failure, OH's b'day yesterday, curry dinner followed by chocie fudge cake.  He has gone away for a week for work and has left the cake behind - half a choccie fudge cake, what can a girl do!?
- By sam Date 21.01.08 16:11 UTC

- By michelled [gb] Date 21.01.08 16:45 UTC

- By huskypup [us] Date 22.01.08 16:22 UTC
Well, so far have resisted the choccie cake.................. Last night had steamed sea bass with salad and a small jacket spud, followed by a pear (had to 'cos doggies expect a share) and a small yogurt (but not low fat - yuck).  Feeling very saintly today :D

My Hubby is starting Lighter Life soon. You have to have over 3 stone to lose and my bother and sister in law have both been on it with fantastic results (she has lost 4 and a half stone since last August). You have food supplements only for a minimum of 8 weeks and then you have counselling every week to train you to eat properly (I could do with that)
I am really proud of him for giving it a go but I do have my reservations about losing a vast amount of weight so quickly - How can that be healthy- on the other hand his heart must be under extreme pressure at the moment with all that excess weight so what harm can it do?
I am also hoping that it will mean that I don't eat so much as he wont be eating. Whilst I am a normal BMI I would still like to drop 1/2 a stone and fight a constant weight battle, as do most of us.
Hope you don't mind me posting. I will keep you all updated with his success.

ps, we went for a MASSIVE Chinese last night - the last supper :-)
- By Lea Date 23.01.08 14:48 UTC
Mum was on that and lost 4 1/2 stone :) :)
I think the benfits outweigh (sorry!!) the negatives.
As mum is lighter than she has ever been as an adult.
Her High blood pressure is now NORMAL
Her problemns with her feet that meant she had to wear specialist innersoles has gone and she doesnt need to wear them anymore.
She is now running, and doing excercise.
She can walk miles, whereas before she was worn out after a couple.
She is HAPPIER :)
The list goes on!!!!
She tried every type of diet going, and none worked.
So I am all for it :)
Lea :)

I must admit I looked into it but found it very expensive

Linda
- By Lea Date 23.01.08 17:29 UTC
I think £60 a week for the duration is good quality as you get the councilloring with it, and the only other thing you spend money on is bottled water. You dont buy any other food for the duration!!!
And if you think of the amount you spend on diet books and food over the years or to spend in years to come, then it actually isnt that expensive LOL

My stepsister and her OH both went on the South Beach diet to lose weight, and both lost a LOT.  Don't know how much, but Dom (stepsister) has always been a big girl - she's now almost a supermodel!  But still healthy :-P

They're both uber fit now too, apparently they were at my dad's in Spain this past weekend, and they both did a 10 mile run the evening they got there, then Simon (the OH) went out for a 3 hour run the next morning.  And in the pool when he got back!  He was out sharpish though - it being winter, he hadn't realised how cold it was in there :-P

I've had an awful week - the cravings were so bad last Wednesday I literally couldn't do anything, I was sat in front of my computer, head in hands, total brain block.  Caved and got some mini-eggs with the best intentions of starting afresh the next day.  As predicted, cue the one-week binge.  I have half a huge bag of min eggs in front of me right now.

I will start again tomorrow - I was feeling really good before I slipped but I feel crappy again now.  On the upside, I lost 2lbs last mon/tues and I've not put it back on by some miracle!  And with my chiropractor OKing me working out again, I can really get going now.  I need to do my 'prescribed' exercises in a mo anyway, I'm going to do them then hop on my exercise bike before dinner.  I was good last night - I had healthy living tikka with prawns and squid (that was an adventure!!). :-)

Off to the doctor's tomorrow though - since NY eve I've been painfully thirsty (literally) in the mornings and overnight and the sides of my neck are sore.  Was ill properly on NYE.  It'll be a good kick up the hiney - good diet equals good health after all!

Everyone I know who did lighter life have lost 7 stone but put back on 9 as soon as they stopped doing it. I wouldnt recommend it at all. Its a really bad way to lose weight. Also its unrealistic because you cant keep it up forever!

BTW I lose 1 pound tonight so thats 6 1/2 in 3 weeks. :)
- By drlmiddleton [gb] Date 23.01.08 20:05 UTC
Well, he came home really positive and to be honest he has to do SOMETHING. Doing nothing is not an option anymore.

It is £66 per week, but I would hope that because of all the money he is spending, that will be the motivation that he needs not to put it all back on when he has finished the diet. Hopefully the therapy sessions will help with that as well.

I also know people that have piled it on but on the other hand I also know some that have managed to keep it off. I guess it is down to the individual - oh yes and if he does put it all back on I will probably divorce him - Just kidding honest :-):-)Not sure thats the sort of motivation he needs, that's likely to have the opposite effect :-):-)

He is likely to post on here himself at some point as we share a log on so hopefully between us we can keep you posted. ( I am already addicted to these forums!)

mum lost 4/12 stone, and finished in febuary. She did put some back on at christmas but only about 1/2 stone which she is getting off again.
As with any diuet, you cant expect to loose the weight and then go back to eating what you used to. If thats what yopu plan, no diet will ever be successful.

aha, one i can join in on now too.....i was a size 24 a year ago and in a very bad relationship ( for 10 years, taking me from size 12 to 24), after we split i decided i needed to make drastic changes and on my own by cutting down on the amount of rubbish i was eating, im down to 18, i was fitting in 16's for a couple of months, but after meeting my partner, ive gradually settled back at 18! now ive hit a lull and need to kick start myself, so im going to slimming world tonight!  my weight is around 15-16 stone, im not sure, but im 5ft 6" so not ideal in anyway! my doctor even took me off the combined pill now as my bmi apparantly is too high for it.  i'd love to be in a size 14 again, thats my goal.

good luck everyone with your diets!

Well I am officially starting tomorrow, weighed in today and will do so every saturday hopefully at the same place! :-)
- By Brainless [gb] Date 27.01.08 02:29 UTC
Well I seem to have lost around half a stone (as near as I can make out bending double over my scales to try and see) since the new year.

I previously lost 5 1/2 stone in 2004 in 8 months but found I just couldn't keep it off, and gained it back and a stone more.

I became very good at eating loads of veg and virtually no fats, sugars or carbs.  I could keep up the deprivation while I was seeing those numbers go down.

This time I as trying to see if just keeping on top of portion size, along with restricting the fats, and carbs might help the slower weight loss be manageable long term.

I can't keep Yo-yo-ing like this.

So I am just under 16 stone, lets see if I can keep the loss at 1/2 a Stone a months so that my metabolism doesn't go into starvation mode like it did last time.

Surely any loss is a victory and better than a gain.

If my body plateaus at 11 1/2 stone as it did last time when I had to do ridiculous workouts at the Gym five times a week and cut food intake to starvation level, maybe I am meant to be an unfashionable 12/14 rather than a 10/12 that I was at 10 Stone.

At least that is what a Rugby playing/coaching friend of mine who is into sports nutrition says.

I have lost 1lb this week, not dissapointed like before as I am still on a high after last weeks weight loss.

ive been struggling with my wieght ever since iwas 13 and i moved out of my mums and in with my dad, then eventually when i turned 17 1n 2004 i cracked it i weighed 8 stone then i got married in 2005 and put on a bit of weight my wedding dress was a size 12 a couple of months after the wedding i fell pregnant and wasnt really that big even at full term, and then some how i put on lots of weight, i now flutter in between 11 and 12 stone have size 14/16 trousers depending on what shop they come from and a size 16 top ive tried everything to try and loose weight, i cant see why i havent lost weight though as for the past few weeks theres no way ive eaten 2000 calories a day

Hi there

I'm new to this site and was just reading this thread about dieting.  I started a diet last week, I weigh 9 1/2 stone and want to loose 1 stone.  I have just been cutting out al the junk, like biscuits, cakes, and sweets.  Also not putting too much milk in my tea or coffee and having smaller portions.  I lost 4lb last week and felt really good, as my once ill fitting bra no longer cuts me in half !

I will post on a Monday (weigh day) and keep up with all your progress.

Good luck and a big well done to those who have lost a few pounds (keep it up)

Great site by the way

When my Mum went to a slimming club a few years back there was a lady there who only lost 1lb per week.  Not much but over a year that is 52lbs!!!!!  And she doesn't put weight back on easily now as she lost it so slowly.
Something to bear in mind!!
I don't have much to lose and that is really annoying as any changes are small and seem to take FOREVER but I am off to the gym tonight so I'm starting this week as I mean to go on.  Doesn't help when OH can eat like a dustbin and not put on an ounce (need the mad smiley!) x
- By abbymum [gb] Date 28.01.08 17:01 UTC
I have only lost 1lb in two weeks but I have really upped the exercise so the muscle is coming back so I will probably start to gain weight lol, dont care as long as I am toned.

I don't want to sound like I'm preaching but the only way to lose weight and keep it off is to eat sensibly and exercise. It might sound simple - thats because it is.
I have tried diets, Slimming World worked - but you have to choose an eating plan you can stick to otherwise you are back to square one. SW - well, once I'd reached 'target' I stopped thinking about that red & green day rubbish and it gradually crept back on.

We all know what we shouldn't eat - the hardest thing is finding the willpower.

I asked advice from a gym and they suggested a very simple healthy eating plan. Basically - we all put far too many chemicals in our bodies with the food we buy (have you looked at the ingredients on an Activia yogurt - something we consider is healthy).
I stopped buying anything processed/packaged. I eat only fresh meat, fish, fruit and veg. Butter rather than any other spread (it's natural - no chemicals like marg etc), olive oil rather than sunflowe/veg oil. I did have a months detox to get rid of the rubbish in my system - so no caffeine, alcohol, choc, sugar. I gave up milk, cheese and wheat. Apart from a headache for three days (I went from 6-7 coffee's a day to nothing !) I felt great. Immediately I lost that bloated feeling which was caused by the wheat.
Three months later, with exercise, I'd lost 22 lbs. I've kept away from the caffeine (not a single drop). I've had the odd glass of wine. My first wheat product made my tummy swell like a balloon so thats a no-no !. I do eat choc now - every night I have just a few squares of milk or dark Green&Blacks. Again, a better quality choc so you feel like you've eaten lots because it tastes so much better and stronger.
I drink loads of water (maybe 7 pints a day......as a treat I have it hot with lemon !).

Don't forget to snack healthily as well. Having breakfast and then nothing until lunchtime is bad - a piece of fruit and a few nuts (not salted etc !) or a carrot wth humous inbetween meals stops the blood sugar level dropping.

The right exercise increases your metabilism so fat gets burned so a quick session as a guest (if you aren't a member) at a gyn and I'm sure you can be shown the correct things to do to help.

I can't see the point nowdays of paying money every week at a diet class just to be weighed !. I'd rather spend that money some wonderful fresh food or a session at the gym !
- By Angels2 Date 28.01.08 23:03 UTC
After I had my first daughter I saw a nutritionalist and she said there are 2 types of people those that feed their body and those that feed their face.....yes I was (and still am) the latter. She set me on a program where  wasn't allowed to eat anything processed but I could have unlimited supplies of the good stuff and was allowed to snack on nuts (unsalted) and oatcakes with peanut butter etc...

To be honest it did go really well and in fact I was eating more but because it was feeding my body I lost weight every week!

Had I then not had my second daughter I would have kept with it. :-)
- By Dogz Date 29.01.08 17:21 UTC
That is such sensible eating, it's what I tell my children to do.
Well my second son is a huge 6'4" and at least 20 stone.
My daughter looks as if she is growing more round than up! She is only 12 and I still tell her eat all you want of real food and beware of anything ready made. I wish I could follow my own advice....
Karen

edit to say I still haven't put my self into weight loss gear :-(
- By Nikita [gb] Date 30.01.08 19:51 UTC
I'm back on track this week!  Put a pound on over the last week and a half - damn those mini eggs.  As always, had a few Wednesday before last and BAM! 11 days gone on a junk binge.  But I've lost 2lbs since Monday now!

I'm now 11st 12lbs, finally cracked the first half stone :-D

I am adjusting my thinking - rather than thinking 'I still need to lose 2 stone' or 'I still need to lose 28lbs' (although that does sound better than 35!!) I am trying to think 'I've lost half a stone, I just need to do that another 4 times'.  Sounds much less then :-P

Weirdly I am finding that when I eat properly, I actually eat a lot less - much less hungry because my blood sugar isn't all over the place, but portion sizes go down and I just don't feel like eating as much.

I've toned up slightly too - since the chiropractor started me on exercises for my back and I've been able to up the dog walking again, my body is improving.  Still not got on that exercise bike but I will tomorrow!
- By aimibobs [gb] Date 31.01.08 10:23 UTC
lost 3lb in 3 weeks so pretty pleased.
Slowly does it !!!
- By rachelsetters Date 31.01.08 10:41 UTC
I want to say well done to all those that have been good and done well!!!

Missed a weigh in cos of 'that time of the month' but back on track this week so static weight since last time of 10st 6lb - hopefully will have a better week next week now - havne't had a glass of wine at all this week which is v. unusual!!!

I would like to be under 10st and then go from there!

:)

KEEP GOING EVERYONE!
- By Angels2 Date 02.02.08 11:45 UTC
Yippee weighed in today lost 6lbs last week! :-)
- By Brainless [gb] Date 02.02.08 13:05 UTC
Well not sure how much I have lost (roughly 3/4 of a stone since the new year), as can't see the scales well enough, but managing to keep from binging and off the crap by an large.

Well check again once the time of the month alters :D

I am hoping that this slower way I might shift the weight and my metabolism won't go into starvation mode so that as soon as you slack off the weight doesn't pile straight back on.
- By Dogz Date 02.02.08 13:26 UTC
Wow....I am still edging closer to begining mine..........
I am looking for a local WW group that doesn't meet on Weds.
Well done and keep going, it's lovely to lose weight and start feeling smaller.

I decided that I am going to do it on my own this time rather than going to weight watchers. I am using this post as my weigh in meeting and just weighing myself every saturday at Woolworths in town. I am just making my portion sizes smaller (similar to the kids sizes) and only having a snack of raw nuts if i'm really hungry. I have also cut out all alchohol as I was drinking a bottle of cider (500ml) every night. We'll see how it goes there is alot of weight for me to lose but I have made my children the determination to be slimmer and healthier. :-)
- By Lea Date 02.02.08 17:27 UTC
