Outlook Express is the basic, free mail package that comes with your Windows operating system. It will do most email things if that's all you want. I use Outlook and live by the calendar and contacts. It comes with the Office suite so you must have Office on your system? If you want to swtich you can find information about importing your O Express messages
here. If you leave your messages on the mail server rather than download/delete them it's just a matter of setting up your account on Outlook - all your messages should be picked up when you first start it up.
I don't find Outlook any harder to use but I'm a computer geek who uses lots of software and can do a little programming so maybe someone else will come along and tell you it's more complicated. If you set it up so your messages are left on the server you could have a play and not lose anything - then go back to using OE if you prefer it.
