Hi guys

I currently use Microsoft outlook express but just found a programme called microsoft outlook on my computer which looks interesting as it has a calender/diary ect on it?  Does anyone know the pros and cons for each, and if the other programme is better how I can swop over from outlook express?

Many thanks in advance

I have microsoft outlook and use the calender/diary/tasks but can't compare as not had the express version.  If it is called express, does that mean it is probably a speedier email version and so doesn't have all the other bits like the diary?

Outlook Express is the basic, free mail package that comes with your Windows operating system. It will do most email things if that's all you want. I use Outlook and live by the calendar and contacts. It comes with the Office suite so you must have Office on your system? If you want to swtich you can find information about importing your O Express messages here. If you leave your messages on the mail server rather than download/delete them it's just a matter of setting up your account on Outlook - all your messages should be picked up when you first start it up.

I don't find Outlook any harder to use but I'm a computer geek who uses lots of software and can do a little programming so maybe someone else will come along and tell you it's more complicated. If you set it up so your messages are left on the server you could have a play and not lose anything - then go back to using OE if you prefer it.

Microsoft Outlook is not difficult to use - I can use it and am not very technical :D

thanks guys, will try it now.  Do they automatically save to the server or do you need to change settings etc?

One additional tip, you may find it easier to run only one or the other on your computer.

Before I switched to Outlook for my business needs I found the calendar etc. on Yahoo to be quite adequate.  I still use it for personal things like birthday reminders.

ah ha, just switched, all my messages are there but there is no send button? I can type a new message, reply but then there is no send button anywhere?

when I bring up a new email then the send button is the first button on the left - you have to have one   maybe look in options or something - hopefully Lori will be back soon to explain :)

Send button is on the left in a new message. Try making the window wider in case there isn't enough room for all the buttons. Also make sure your standard toolbars are turned on. Look in the View menu under Toolbars. It's somewhere I'm sure :)

Edited to add make sure you look in the window that opens when you click on the New Message button. There is no Send button in the main window where Reply and New Message are. It's on the toolbar for the window where you write the messages.
