i have a year old rescue cat, who is a stunning blue colour with almond eyes ( cant get a photo on at the moment) he is quite large and has velvet fur. i rescued him thinking he was a blue tabby moggy, however as he has grown he has some charcahteristics of a blue and the tabby matkings have gone. (apart from faint markings on his tail)
but he doesnt have the big head, i have been told that british blue pets are not usually castrated until 7 months of age, wheras he was 5 months, so i suppose that could account for the head.
a friend who has seen him and has blues herself , thinks he could be a blue, however im not convinced- i have heard there is a french equivilant that describes him better. does anyone know their name or what these look like? or their charachteristics,
Caiden loves fuss and attention and unlike alot of cats will willingly be picked up and fussed, he loves water (has joined me in the bath and loves playing in the empty bath.water doesnt faze him, he loves going out in the rain and getting wet, the first few times he came in wet i dried him, but he went straight out and got wet again so in the end i gave up. he also comes when called , which is handy for when he needs to go to the vets - daft cat :D
do these charchteristics sound familiar to anyone?
i love him whatever he is , but it would be interseting to know his parentage if possible

wow- you are clever!! :D
that describes Caiden to a T. and looks just like him too! dont think they are common though, wonder how he ended up in a skip? would have thought there were few breeders and those that were about would be careful about there kittens?
not casting aspersions on any moggie owners, but its usually those that end up dumped.

he might be.
ive just googled now i know the name looked at lots of different sites cant beleive how much he looks like them and the description describes him perfectly, looks, behaviour and temperament- wow the average size for males is 12-16lbs. i hope he gets this big, i love big cats.:)
thanks again for your help.

Over 40 years ago, the feral cats around the farms in a village in Nottinghamshire were all blues!

There's a lovely blue moggy in the village I live in and he's just that, there's also a lovely cream too with a clear coat that the British should have.    Just one of these things that sometimes nature produces a stunner!

Lucky you, those are beautiful cats.  The breed name threw me though, as chartreuse is a limey green sort of colour.  Obviously my francais needs work.

he is gorgeous:cool:im very lucky, he's such a lovely little boy, i have two other cats (both moggies, one ex feral) however i lost my fusspot boy to a horrible RTA two years ago and ive missed having a cat that loves being fussed and played with. he cuddles up to me in bed and absolutley adores Callum, the two of them play and sleep together :)

The breed name is after a monastery in France. :)

As far as I know there aren't any Chartreux in this country and it is not a recognised breed here so very unlikely. He could be a pet quality Exotic! Loads of them about. But also you do find mogs like this, or crossbreeds of course. It can be virtually impossible to tell. Now about the colour, you said the markings disappeared. What colour is the undercoat? Is it the same as the top coat or is it white at the bottom? And does he have any tabby stripes on the face? What colour is the stomach?
