Bernards home!!! :D :D He was finally discharged yesterday :D :D when we went back on Monday morning they kept him in :( to have another scan to make sure the infection hadn`t spread. Well it hasn`t & they just kept him in for the night :D
The weekend went well but was tiring for both of us. We`ve got so many changes to adjust to & Bernards very weak, it`s going to take time to build his strength back up.
It was just 4 wks ago yesterday that he was admitted with suspected diverticulitis, 3 days before that was working full time running his own chambers with hardly any health problems & now he`s a cancer survivor who`s survived 2 major ops in 12 days

it doesn`t seem real! He goes back next Monday to get the results & see if he`ll need chemo, if he does it will be only a couple of short treatments just to zap anything that might be lurking cos they`re confident it hadn`t spread & they got it all out :) In a lot of ways he`s been extremely fortunate, we`ve got an aful lot to be thankful for :)
The second op the docs only gave him 50/50 chance of coming thru but he`s amazing everyone with how well he`s come thru all this, specially as he`ll be 82 this August

:D
So once again guys, a very
huge thank you to all, from both of us :D looks like all those prayers/healing thoughts etc have been answered :D :D :D

Hi all :) thanks for the support, very much appreciated :)
Seems we`ve been a bit too optamistic, went for the results yesterday & Bern has to start chemo next Monday, 5 days a week for 6 weeks! Its a grade C1 on the Dukes test, had spread to 3 out of 11 lypmh nodes that were removed, more advanced than originally thought :( :(
I was so shocked & upset yesterday, just didn`t expect that. But feeling somewhat better this morning :) well trying too at least! Just feel like we`ve got no more control over our lives anymore & everythings upside down :(
I keep remembering my dearest wish when he was in hospital & that was to have him home, well we got it (how lucky were we eh :D ) & I`m hanging on to that & will try & make the best of this & keep us both positive :) Sure is a difficult time!!
Sorry not replied yet to pm`s but will just as soon as I`ve got a bit more time & shake off this tiredness  :D
Thanks for you`re support guys :)
I can understand how shocked and upset you and Bernard must have been to receive this news, Christine - it was so obviously what you didn't want to hear. But your determination to stay positive will, I'm sure, help to get you through the weeks of treatment. It's not always easy to stay strong all the time though - it's tiring and draining, so do look after yourself.
Hoping for the very best outcome for you both.
xx

Mega cyber {{{{{hugs}}}}} & masses of healing thoughts & of course many many cavalier kisses to help you & Bern

Oh Christine, I'm so sorry to hear this, not what you wanted to hear at all :( :(
You must be drained with worry, I'm sure that's why you feel so tired.
Please keep positive, for both your sakes, I've got everything crossed for Bernard, and if good wishes and positive thoughts have anything to do with it, everything will turn out right!
Don't worry about the pm's you haven't got time for that, the most important thing is taking care of Bernard and yourself.
Sending hugs and positive thoughts your way!
Jasper sends a big slobbery licky kiss - not sure which one of you would want that though :D
Thanks for keeping us updated :)
Love to you both, Maria xxx
Many thanks guys :)
Bern`s getting better day by day, digestive system is starting to work normally, appetite & the amount he can eat is loads better as well thank goodness! The abccess is still draining tho but they say that could be a while yet, but all in all he`s doing well :) And I`m eating more properly too & have finally got on top of the washing, dirty laundry basket is almost empty ;)
Getting geared up for the chemo on Monday, he`s not having it by injection now, it`ll be by drip. It`ll be done on the ward & last about half to an hour then he comes home again, give me a bit of time to do some shopping if I need to, or more like mega strong cups of coffee ;) :D
While I`m here like to wish everyone well at crufts, have a great time :)
Sorry for the sad loss of Libs & jazzywoo, very sad news, they`ll be sorely missed :( :(
Hi Christine :)
Good to hear that Bern is doing well and you sound a lot more positive now which is great. Mega hugs to you and strong healing vibes to Bern xxxx.
Good to hear that Bernard's doing well and that his appetite is a lot better - a very good sign that he's feeling better in himself. :)
Best wishes to you both that things keep improving.

Hope today went ok for Bernard
Thinking of you both, warmest wishes, continued good luck...and much admiration :) xxxxxxxxx
Gosh, I'm so pleased. Just been catching up as I've had a few personal traumas recently and it seemed like so many doggies had been poorly or worse! I was starting to worry!
I'm so glad that Bernard is ok and doing well!!
Thanks guys :)
Alls been going well, only side affect is he`s more tired than usual. I`ve got the regime mixed up  but got it right now!
He`ll finish this cycle tomorrow then have a rest from it for 3-4wks. If blood tests are OK then, he`ll then have that same chemo routine, Mon-Fri, 5 more times, so it`ll be spaced over 6mths NOT 6wks!
Just got to get some weight back on him now!! :)

>Just got to get some weight back on him now!! <
Now will he be getting green tripe or breast of lamb? ;-) :-D
Lol @ you guys :D :D he`s got to be on high protein foods & also nothing much that has hmmm what shall we say, a laxative effect, feels like de ja vu eh folks heheh ;) :D :D
Dieticans words, its all trial & error

how many times have we heard that

:D
No seriously, he`s doing well & yesterday not feeling as tired, even did a legal opinion from home! He wrote it, I typed it & emailed it to his office :) They put him back on anti biotics last Friday cos the abcess was still draining very heavily & was infected again :( BUT finally on Monday morning it had slowed down an awful lot, big improvememnt so looks like we`re finally getting there with that :)
We`ve got a few wks to rest & relax before the next round starts, gosh I`ve so missed being at home, my dogs & out of my routine, feel like winter past us by & springs sprung up on us!!
Thanks for the support everyone, much appreciated :)
