Hi Christine,
I'm just catching up with the forum having been in a lap-top free state for some time  My heart sank when I saw your thread as there is so much sadness on the forum right now.
I'm so glad that things are looking brighter :) Prayers however will still be said for both Bernard and you! He's not getting off easily "Upstairs" ;)
God bless, keep smiling, and try and catch some more rest and then please God you'll be back with an even better progress report!
love & hugs, Teri xxx

Hi everyone :)
On Sunday he came out of ccu unit & back into the surgical ward & they started him on a high protein diet, which consists of just about everything plus special types of meals & drinks

:D
He wanted to get out of bed so in the afternoon they helped him into an armchair but it was a bit too much & after 5 mins they had to put him back to bed. On the Monday I was seeing the surgeon at 10am & I was early so they let me go in to sit with Bern till it was time, lo & behold there he was back sitting in the armchair, washed & shaved!!! He`s amazing everyone with his recovery, its just brilliant :D AND..... he
may be allowed home in a weeks time

:D It`s just so fantastic :D
I`m a bit shell shocked at the speed everythings going at

But would like to say thanks to everybody for all the prayers, thoughts & well wishes, they`ve been well & truly answered :D

Good news that his recovery is coming along so nicely. I bet you can't wait to get him home :)

Such good news. Reminds me of my mum 6 years ago. First day after the op (breast cancer) she looked terrible, next day she'd managed to put a hair band on herself and was propped up, the 3rd day she'd smudged some eyeshadow on and had a totter about chatting to other patients. My mum is a tough little fighter and it sounds like your OH is too. :)

Good to hear he's recovering so quickly :) it must be your chicken soup helping him :D :D miraculous stuff! Hope he's home soon and feeling chipper :)
im rearly pleased for u an bernard,i wish him a speedy recovery :)
Hi all, Bern has been doing so well, everything working, eating small high protein easy digestable meals but he was taken back to critical care this morning to be prepared for more surgery. It was suspected peritonitis, know thats spelt wrong but am a bit tired. He had surgery at 2.30pm & the good news is it was an abcess inside were 1 of the drains had been, it was localised & they cleaned it all out before it had spread, caught very quick :) They thought it`d take an hour to hour & half but only took 45mins! At the mo he`s stable, comfortable, sleeping & in no pain, so thats more good news :) They started him on anti/b`s before he even went to theatre so any infection won`t get a hold :)
Those woods are tantalising close so if you`ve got a few seconds please remeber him :)
Thanks guys :)

Hi Christine,
this has been such a harrowing journey for you both and a further blip in Bernard's recovery was the last thing either of you needed but thank God it is only a blip and quick action taken :) You will both remain in my thoughts and prayers that he's now over the final hurdle and you can see a huge gap between those darn trees ;)
Sending
major hugs, blessings and positive thoughts!

Speedy recovery wishes and much love to you both. :-)
PS My father's name was Bernard!
Thanks ever so much folks for remembering him all the prayers, well wishes etc :)
Pretty reluctant to say this but today he`s doing well & back on the ordinary ward :) Starting to eat again, small amounts & often & the docs are pleased with his progress, seems these abcesses are common with this type of surgery. Anyway no infection spread anywhere else & things are looking good again :)
Big thanks again giys :)
ps I`m shattered so off to bed early for a change will answer pm`s tomorrow :)

You`re not going to believe this but he`s home

right now watching Frost on the telly, laying down on the settee

:D
To cut it short, when I rang him this morning he said doc told him he could go home for the w/end if he/me felt up to it!!! Got there about half 1pm but didn`t get out till nearly 4pm  He can go back anytime, tonight, tomorrow or whenever he feels like (& we can ring the ward anytime at all if we need to) so long as he`s back before 9am Monday :D
He`s had a few cuppa`s & 2 fresh eggs that were laid today, scrambled on toast & is just about to have some warm milk & honey :D can`t believe he`s here

Feel like I`m on a treadmill & can`t get off, I`d be in shock but am too numb

just living by the moment really, not even day by day!
But am so so glad he`s home, he had me a bit worried once or twice!! :D :D
Thanks ever so much guys :D
ps we`re both off for a well earned early night shortly :D
