I'm planning on starting agility with my Dobermann (he's just over 2 1/2). I've been doing a bit of reading around and see that some people give even their young dogs a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement to help with the stress on the joints. I initially thought it was just for older dogs, but am wondering if it might be beneficial for him re the agility, plus in light of his tendency to tear round after rabbits, jump over various obstacles in his way  etc. Am I right in thinking that even if it does no good, it can't do any harm..? With have an appointment at the vets next week anyway so I'll ask there, just after opinions really.

Thanks :D

I think suppliments like this are down to personal choice more than anything.

I give my lot something called Joint Aid which contains chondroitin, collagen, curcumin, glucosamine, glutamine, MSM, oatinol etc.

Hi

Could you tell me where you get your Joint Aid from please? I currently give my pup glucousamine and chondroitin.

Paula.

I've bought it various places. The last tub I bought was from a stall at an agility show. The agility club I go to also sells it. However, if you do a search online you should be able to find it. Its by a company called Gro-Well Feeds ltd. They sell it in pouches or tubs.

I have an old rescue Afghan who spent most of his life living on a shed floor and he now has arthritis.  I have tried an endless list of products!  None have come close to cortaflex.  I actually give him the equine one in powder form as its £50 for a 400gm tub and lasts over a year whereas the one marketed for dogs (whose ingredients are no different other than water!) is much more expensive.
Anyway the reason I tell you this is that the website actually recommends its use as a preventative supplement also,  Great stuff ;)

Thanks for the responses everyone :D I think I may give it a go as it sounds like it can only be beneficial (although probably not for my bank balance :P) - not sure exactly which product to choose though! Will have to do a bit more investigating.
