I realise that dogs who are registered with the Kennel Club have their pedigree certificate issued via the KC. Does anyone know what other sort of "papers" a puppy may be issued with and any idea how I would contact those other organisations ( I know they are not the same as the KC).
The reason I am asking is because we have been trying, unsuccessfully, to trace the breeder of our rescue Golden Retriever who was only 10 weeks old when he was given up to the Dogs Trust and was then rehomed with us. The Trust told us they had seen his "papers" but did not want them as they were of no interest to them for rehoming him and are not able to give us the details of the people who originally purchased him from the breeder.
I have had help on this site from a member who has made enquiries for me through the breed club but, unfortunately, was unable to trace him through the date of birth we were given by the Trust. So I was wondering if the papers the Trust looked at weren't actually a KC pedigree registeration but some other form of registration - which I know will have no official standing but may give us a clue as to where we can go next with our search. We would like to know his background purely out of interest as to his breeding and health of his parents. He was neutered this year in line with the Trust's rehoming policy.
I would be grateful for any help with "alternative registers".
