I am still quite new to my breed but I think the stud is approx half of the puppy price and the scale goes up like the puppy price depending on quality of dog. ( When I use the word quality I mean with regards show).

Talking of puppies for money my next door neighbours mum was round and we got chatting over the fence, she has a Lhasa dog who is a year old and she has just purchased a bitch just to breed for money, i asked her where she had got the dogs from , just pets from a show breeder who said that they were not good enough for the ring , but i want to make some money.
I also asked her if she knew how many rescue Lhasa's there were out there as well as all other breeds, her answer don't care not my problem , i can get £500 per pup and two litters a years saves me from working.
I tried to explain that there is a lot more to it than that ie breeding every season , vets fees the list goes on but to no avail she is set.
What can be done?

Sam :-((( it makes me sick.
I only last month went a rescued a Laso from a woman who had left her husband, he buggared off and the dog was in the house on its own for a week. She was a wee cutie but needs a bit of behavioural work but she will be fine and she is now in a good home.
It is beyond me why some poeple breed. I love my 2 so much and even though I show I can not see me being able to re homes for another. I know some have to but I am a big softie.

Sam,
Do you think it would help to stop such, stupid, greedy people as your neighbour's mum if there was more regulation of breeding/selling pups or is that just another minefield?

Sam, again a lot of disparity in deerhounds but in general stud fees have slipped well behind puppy prices, usually to a bit more than half the price of a pup.
Sorry for accidentally calling you Dot :)

Hi Nicky,
In Staffords a fair price is considered to be around the £400 mark, which is what i paid for my most recent pup, though my last was £350 3 1/2 years ago - though she now sells for £450. However, many show breeders charge upwards of £500, and the "back yards" are now folloing suit. The breed council have suggested in their last meeting that the show breeders drop their prices in order that pups are more affordable for the ordinary man, and so hopefully force the other breeders so stop or reduce the numbers of littlers- they are alos suggesting that the number of litters any breeder breds is reduced as there are so so many SBT's being registered at the moment - and thats not counting Syafford crosses, or ISBT's - oh and then there is the old type stfford, blah blah - the list is endless.
