Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Constantly Food Hunting

I have never had a problem with Misty eating her food as it is gone in 60 seconds of putting it down, no matter what it is or how much.  But just lately she is acting as if she is hungry constantly, it doesn't matter that she was fed only 5 mins ago, she is still trying to find food with a vengence.  As soon as I open a cupboard to get something out, she is in there trying to grab stuff, dried pasta, packets of couscous etc etc.  She is now trying to get on the table when we are eating and will grab what she can :(.  It is now getting to the stage that we are unable to walk from the kitchen to the lounge with a snack without her trying to get it.  Basically she could be the other end of the room and literally will charge towards us and grab before we realise whats going on.

I have recently increased her food (fed on Burns) as I thought she may actually be hungry but she is starting to get a little pot belly!!! I know that dogs will do this and counter surf  but when does it become excessive?  What sort of training should I be doing to prevent this and ensure she stays put.  We have tried stairgates in the doorway to the dining room/lounge/kitchen etc but she will sit there and whine/bark constantly and try to jump them (wont be long before she can ).
Any ideas? :)

When did you last worm her?
I have to say that when I use to feed burns my youngest was always on the scrounge until I changed his food.

i was going to say worming...
also, how old is she???  would she be near a season or first season.  our bitch was starving coming up to her seasons!!

also, if she has had seasons could she have been got at and be pregnant??

if she is a pup she is maybe just hungry as she is growing??

She isn't on any sort of medication is she?  Steroids can have just this effect.

Sorry but computer went loopy and only just got back on-line!   She is only 17 weeks old and is up to date with worming, (I think - will have to check when she is next due).  She never used to be this bad with food, I would say only in the last couple of weeks or so.

Most puppies have 'a little pot belly' don't they?  Maybe she just needs more food, sounds like that to me!  :)

my boy was like this on burns, it was awful, I would never feed burns again after what it did to him, he was starving :(

After reading the Vit K post, I wouldnt be to keen on feeding Burns anyway now. Have a look at it OP, make your own decision, there are some good links put up about it from the OP poster, who had a reply from Burns, and Christine. :) If the pup is not doing well anyway, and from past posts it seems some dont 'do' well on it, maybe consideration to another food would be a good idea? :)

I fed Burns to my guys eons ago,it lasted a month, they, like your dog were constantly hungry, their coats went dry and lost so much weight even though i was feeding more than the  recommended guidelines i ended up throwing it away. Burns main ingredient is rice,it will fill them up and give them quick energy, but when they come down, look out, they are ravenous!! Just like when we have a chocolate bar mid afternoon,it satisfies for a short time but then we are starving hungry again an hour later. In all honesty it doesnt sound as iff this food is suiting your dog...
