my old tyme bulldog has been vomiting on and off for the last 6 months. The first time it happened, he ate, and was immediately sick, litterally 10 seconds after finishing. this happened for a couple of days so we went to the vet. he said to starve him for a day, then feed chicken and rice and then reinriduce his normal food. we did this and all was well. a month later and the same thing happened. back to the vets we went. again he said the same thing. starve, chicken and rice, normal food. we did this and the dog was ok. this has happened on two occasions again since then, the last time was 3 weeks ago. on wednesday i came in from work to find two huge pile of sick (his breakfast) on the floor. he had eaten this 6 hours before.
today i fed him at 4 pm and he has just drank a load of water and brought his tea back up.
as i said, at first he was being sick staight away after eating. this time it seems that drinking lots of water is bringing it back up.
when the vomiting first started i was feeding him burns but he went off that. i am now feeding autarky.
any ideas?

I agree with soaking the food first add a little boiled water let it soften a little then add a bit of cold give it 5-10 mins to soak before feeding. Have you considered that dry food may not be suitable for your dogs you could possibly try natures menu or something similar. I had a male boy a few years ago who could not eat dry fed soaked or not it took me a long time to sort his food out he eventually was fed Pal in tins for around 10 years of his life we had him for 15 and half years... but it suited him (not one I would recommend unless all else fails)
have you tried feeding smaller meals and often?
If he is still having problems then I would definitely get the vet to take another look if he isnt forthcoming then ask for a referral (especially if he is insured) or change your vet as there are so many reasons why this is occuring.

hi there,
thanks for your replies. i soaked his food this morning and three hours later, again after drinking lots of water, he brough it all back up. he seems to be drinking a lot more water than he normally does. i will go back to the vet on monday. i may try him on wet food again if all else fails. ive put him on chicken and rice tonight and that has stayed down so far.
thanks again
