Gosh I hope people aren't using that to sell dogs that can't be KC registered.........if so the KC will have well and truly shot themselves in the foot.........

I might have this wrong, but isn't it people who join CDC, no question of registering your dog with it?
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 12.01.06 23:03 UTC Edited 05.02.06 17:24 UTC
What paperwork do you get if you join?  This is very worrying if people are fobbing off new puppy owners with this, but not surprising look at the other alternate dog registration system and how gullible people are fooled with that registration!
- By Anwen [gb] Date 13.01.06 00:08 UTC
If you look at the link Daisy supplied, it is nothing to do with registering dogs, except you give your dog's name & breed when you join. YOU get a membership certificate, the dog doesn't get anything. So the OP's CDC is nothing to do with the KC (can't blame them for everything) :D
- By Goldmali Date 13.01.06 00:30 UTC
Well thank goodness for that! :)

I think it is about time the Prestige Kennel Club is given some competition    They after all are not perfect and they are a business.  Perhaps in years to come the other alternative dog registration system could do shows for their members.   It's a new company in it's early stages good luck to them.  It's good for people who only want a pet and not a dog for show.

- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 15.01.06 10:48 UTC
They already do shows for anybody

So you are happy for a company that knowingly realises that many people are not only using champion dogs names as being parents to dogs that they are not but that the names are also for a completely different breed????

At least with the KC you can't get away with such inaccuracies !
- By Goldmali Date 15.01.06 12:28 UTC
:x There!
- By Brainless [gb] Date 15.01.06 12:39 UTC
Ok if your happy with an often untruthful and irrelevant set of names that mean nothing.
- By rhyhel Date 15.01.06 12:59 UTC
All I'm saying is it is health to have a competitor.  What prices would we be paying if there was only one supermarket?  Unfortunately there are ever-increasing numbers of pups that could be KC reg but the pet own decides to have the puppy cheaper and not bother.  This is a new database to record their details on.  Choice is a good thing.  Rolls Royce or a ford.

At the end of the day the KC is a business out to make money.
If   DLRC  is out to deceive then yes fair enough it should be stopped.
:rolleyes:::confused:
- By CherylS Date 15.01.06 13:03 UTC
.........But you might be getting a Ford at Rolls Royce prices allegedly
- By Val [gb] Date 15.01.06 13:24 UTC
If you were comparing like with like, then I might agree with you.............

It doesn't work like that.  You can bet your life anyone with a litter that can be KC reg will be as they will be cheaper if they are not as they don't have veriufiable background.

This is the sole reason some of these alternatives have for existence, people think they are getting something they are not.

Also I don't think there is a database all the so called breeder does is give the names they fancy, and the sme parents can end up with different names each time they are bred from.

With the KC database, they are relying on honesty as regards which pair were actualy mated to gether (need signature of both parties owners) but you will ahve on record the age the bitch was bred from, how many litters, what helath tests were doen on the parents and their parents and so on back.  there is no other UK orgaisation that has this, (except the ISDS for Sheepdosgs, which is very strict in it's registration criteria), and certainly no other that organises that covers al the working and show disciplines.

In the USA things are rather different, some the alternative registries there do organise shows, and working activities, often including breeds not yet recognised, or on a different system to the AKC, the UKC offer Champion titles etc and are often more like our own shows where most exhibitors are owners rather than a lot of pro hqandlers. Sadly they also have ones that are purely to give puppy mill pups some sort of credibility to buyers who don't know better.

Rolls Royce or a ford

neither give me a Subaru built & capable of doing the job it was created for ;) just like my dogs :D
- By gwen [gb] Date 15.01.06 18:09 UTC Edited 05.02.06 17:26 UTC
And the alternative dog registration system is certianly not in its early stages, it has been around for years.  It is not an alternative to the KC system, but an alternative to the KC certificate, quite a different thing :)

I am seeing this from the perspective of a pet owner.  What is the benefit to the pet owner of registering on the DLRC compared to the KC?  If pet owners choose not to register with KC why would they register with DLRC?

I can see that for most businesses that competition is good because you get better services and cheaper prices but how would DLRC improve on the KC?  I have thought about this this pm and can't come up with a definitive answer that would improve the situation as it is now.  I cannot see how having two databases would be an improvement.  I have thought through the RR and ford analogy and it doesn't compare like someone else said.

> It's good for people who only want a pet and not a dog for show. <

If people only want a pet, why the need for a registration certificate at all?

If somebody offererd you a car that seemed like a bargain, but wasn't registered with the DVLA. Instead it  had supposedly similar registration, but with a new company that had no history, would you touch it with a bargepole? Similar thing.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 15.01.06 14:35 UTC
The KC reg. isn't for show dogs!  It's there so that hopefully you know the true background of the dog and that it's the breed that it's supposed to be.
- By Moonmaiden Date 15.01.06 14:46 UTC
I like the current SV(German GSD registry)following some shall I say dodgy dealings regrading the parentage & ID of some dogs they now have all the dogs DNA profiled They have of course for many years insisted on tattooing of all dogs(the tattoo nunmber is the SV reg number & done by their authorised tattooists in the presence of the regional Breed Warden)so when the DNA sample is taken it is cross referenced with the tattoo number so there is less chace of anyone else trying the same scam

The KC of coourse has Agility, obedience, flyball, HTM, WT & gundog trailling dogs registered with them & has a DNA profiling scheme & joint BVA/ISDS etc health schemes

DNA profiling has been used to prove a top sheepdog trialling sire was not the sire of a CEA affected puppy(the stud is in fact CEA clear)

I went on the other"registry" site & registered a litter through there system after entering made up names & putting a designer breed as the breed & two different breeds as the parents + of course false pedigrees so it is very open to abuse & falsification of information ! This couldn't happen with the KC

To all, many thanks on enlighten me on some of the facts of the kennel club.  I still think it would be no bad thing to have another organization for dogs on the same par as the kennel club, the same recognition, respect same clout etc etc., At least then they would not be able to call all the shots.

This I know is a ludicrous thought at present but the kennel club had to start somewhere.

I am deffo not advocating any of the other new organization out there at present.  I have had no dealing's with them or research on them.  And to go on Moonmaiden research clearly not a lot can be said of them.

I do agree with u that at present the KC is the best organizing out there at present.
But wouldn't it be nice to have a choice of another one.  So if u didn't like what they were doing you could at least go elsewhere and not devalue your dogs.

I have no idea as to how much say members of the club have but surly the KC know they got u where they want u.

Just food for thought!!

Alas we will just have to agree to disagree.

I lov SBT
Especially My 5-month-old Ruby

I would welcome all dogs being DNA tested but how could the KC check that the parents who were supposed to be the parents are?  Surely they wouldn't go through all the paperwork so again it would be on trust?
- By Moonmaiden Date 16.01.06 14:40 UTC
It is possible to DNA all living dogs in the pedigree & for the puppies too be done before sale link this with a tattoo &/or chip & like the SV you have the basis of complete ID If in doubt siblings etc can be DNA profileQED really
