Hello all,
I just got off the phone with xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I explained to him what was going on with our breed's photos on
their website. He said that they are simply a bulletin board for
"breeders" to post their dogs for sale. He explained that it got
started because his sons purchased a dog over the Internet and
thought this would be a great thing to do. (ughhh) He said, "We
think it's a neat way to buy/sell a puppy." I explained that these
dogs "for sale" are:
1) Photos not belonging to the person who is supposedly the seller
and thus these are misrepresentations of the dog that actually is for
sale, or it's out and out fraud because that dog is not for sale and
perhaps someone will be sending money but not receiving any dog;
2) No responsible breeder would sell a dog over the Internet when
they have not been able to check out a potential home. I went on to
explain that these are either fraudsters with no dog to sell or puppy
mills.
He said that they cannot be responsible for the sales that occur on
their website. He also explained that it would be financially
impossible to do background checks on everyone who submits a sale. I
said, "Clearly all of your actions are irresponsible!" After a nice
lecture from me as well as an interactive tour of his site, where I
pointed out Garry Mason's CH. Glenhafod Arizona as "Matt" and then
took him to Garry's actual website, he said, "Well, I see what you're
saying. We're not familiar with the dog business..." to which I
responded really sarcastically, "So, that's why you're in it? Again,
your actions are irresponsible and you are providing a service that
perpetrates fraud against ignorant people and MOST importantly, you
are perpetuating the business of puppy mills which is an abuse of any
animal." In the closing minutes of our conversation, he said, "We're
not the bad guys" to which I replied, "Are you sure?" He "thanked me
for the enlightening conversation" and I told him that I would not be
the last person to be calling with complaints.
