Hi Mandi -
I have a lovely English Setter who is now 10 mths. We had intented to show him - when we went to our first ringcraft they commented that no testicles as yet. Was given advice by a friend that they can take some time so not to worry and even up to a year.
He had absolutely nothing for 8 months and then 1 dropped. So ever hopeful we went to the vet to see and the other is still not to be found. Vet is waiting til he is 15 months before another look and feel! But again not hopeful and if it is retained it is recommended it is removed to reduce risk of cancer - although have seen on this site that they can be retained and get testicular cancer but there is a risk.
It is possible that they can take as long as a year but they should be able to be felt - but as I said we had no signs nor could anything be felt and then 1 - so it may happen but isn't very likely. Sorry not given you a huge amount of hope.
When we first heard I was really upset but at the end of the day I have a beautiful boy and he is a pet first and showing is a fun hobby. A few people have suggested that we find him a pet home - and I say that's what he has got now! He's so cuddly and such character would definitely not be without him.
He is so beautiful and his litter sisters are doing really well at the moment and his half brother too!
We will just stick to showing our gordons! And Charlie can have fun at companion shows.
PM me if you want to discuss more.
