Topic Dog Boards / Showing / No Testicals! HELP!

Hi Everyone,

I have a 6 month old puppy that is definilty suppose to be for showing purposes. Now his vet is aware of the fact that his testicals have no yet dropped. I am starting to worry because he is at the point where I can start showing him and he is such a beautiful dog so it would be tragedy for him to not be able to show because of that. Anyways I have heard of dogs "sucking them up" until they get to big and must drop them but my vet is making me feel discouraged with all his "well at this age he really should have them" comments. So I was wondering if anyone had suggestions. Are there any pills or remedies or injections that could help the process? I'm at the point where i am looking for any options to help this situation. I am located in the states so if anyone can let me know any suggestions that would be awesome!
Thank You

Hi Mandi -

I have a lovely English Setter who is now 10 mths.  We had intented to show him - when we went to our first ringcraft they commented that no testicles as yet.  Was given advice by a friend that they can take some time so not to worry and even up to a year.

He had absolutely nothing for 8 months and then 1 dropped.  So ever hopeful we went to the vet to see and the other is still not to be found.  Vet is waiting til he is 15 months before another look and feel!  But again not hopeful and if it is retained it is recommended it is removed to reduce risk of cancer - although have seen on this site that they can be retained and get testicular cancer but there is a risk.

It is possible that they can take as long as a year but they should be able to be felt - but as I said we had no signs nor could anything be felt and then 1 - so it may happen but isn't very likely.  Sorry not given you a huge amount of hope.

When we first heard I was really upset but at the end of the day I have a beautiful boy and he is a pet first and showing is a fun hobby.  A few people have suggested that we find him a pet home - and I say that's what he has got now!  He's so cuddly and such character would definitely not be without him.

He is so beautiful and his litter sisters are doing really well at the moment and his half brother too!

We will just stick to showing our gordons!  And Charlie can have fun at companion shows.

PM me if you want to discuss more.

One of my boys didn't bring his down until he was about 7 months and they were like peas, he's quite a big boy now though 3 years down the line almost :d

Give it to 12 months, then if there's nothing I would get him back to the vets.  Oh by the way don't keep feeling for them :d
