I went to my first open show (and first ever show) in May this year with my boy! We had attended a few ringcraft. On the day of the show boy was I nervous - no idea what/where to go!
I was lucky enough to have a kind of mentor from ringcraft/introduced via my breeder at crufts who had the same breed. But still was a nervewracking experience.
Arrived with plenty of time to spare. Found the catalogues! Checked the order of judging (several times), saw the number of entries in our class, located the ring and then waited anxiously!
We have a very friendly breed and lots of people came to say hello (and comment on my boy!) luckily nice comments so helped to relax me.
The best advice came from my hubby - it's just for fun and not life or death here! Just remember that - it's for fun!! You do have the best dog at the end of the day!
Well after Max being a v. good boy and remaining still and steading for the judge going over him - moved like a dream we came third out of (if memory serves me well) 9!
I never looked back - we have had a great time since in champ and open shows - and we have been doing ok - we have met some lovely people (across breeds too!)
We have really enjoyed every time we have showed - so smile relax and just enjoy it all!
Just want to add - Good luck!
