What difference dose it make if it's free anyway. So if there were 2 petrol ststions near to you,one is free and the other is'nt.Dose that make the free one no good,I tell you what you keep paying,I'll would happly get vthe free petrol.
Ehm, buying some petrol & buying a puppy are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS ALTOGETHER.
One does not need thinking about whatsoever, whereas hopefully the other has many hours, days, weeks or months of thought put into it.
I was on about the advertiseing part not the buying. We can all give smartarse answears if we wish'd,but thats not why we come on.
I bought my bichon frise from hotdog kennels, which is listed in the above thread,,,,,,,,, I had no idea what to look for, the seller came to the train station give me (nancy) I paid her and headed home. Nancy had missed her 2nd jab,so had to take the first one again then the 2nd jab some weeks later, she also had kennel cough, wood chippings/sawdust matted into her coat,,,,,, I learned an expensive lesson......... All is well now, Looking back still think i was lucky it could of been worse, She has turned out to be such a lively, loving dog, couldnt of wished for a better dog(apart from house training) :-)

How interesting to hear our others live? We obviously live in very different worlds.:)
I'm on planet Earth, were you from?

Not really that different. It depends on what you want, why you want it and how much it costs. Pedigree dogs from reputable breeders are out of the price range of many families and if they want a pet that badly they have to cut corners. I also think many people don't really know anything about KC, pedigrees and good breeding.
Yes you are right, the majority of pet owners never delf into a breed any futher than buying it.
But don't you think, nemasis, that that is one of the main reasons why so many dogs end up discarded so easily, in rescue etc, because people DON'T think about their purchase thoroughly enough? And before you jump down my throat again, I am not suggesting that everyone who buys a pup this way is going to abandon it so easily, just that the free-ads are aimed at anyone, including those who may not have even thought about buying a puppy before picking up the paper & seeing an appealing sounding ad.

i got nellie from such a paper,
she was from a lady that had a litter from her bitch 4 times in her lifetime, they were very nice pups, well socailised ,healthy, as were mum & dad ......which (oh no!!) she both owned.
she was lucky i suppose that the match between her dog & bitch blended so well, & the dogs were free from heredrity dieases.
i didnt know any better at the time, BUT couldnt have boufght a nicer puppy from anywhere in the world.
would i do it again? no probaley not,but then i know more now.
my lady wasnt a puppy farmer, but maybe she didnt have the knowledge that some people do. however she was producing nice pups, that her owners were thrilled to bits with & making a little ( paid £100 for nellie 6 yrs ago)bit of money.

Hi Michelled , :-)
This is not a critcism of you honestly .
The one thing that I just wanted to point out is the flip of the coin to your senario is WHAT would have happened had there been a problem. Playing with unknown quantities and not having repercussions is luck. If there had been a health problem would she have dealt with it, would she have refunded your money.. something you won't ever know. You have to also remember hereditary problems sometimes don't show in the puppies they could be carriers of problematic genes.
I know you that you now know how to go about buying a puppy but to say,
>i didnt know any better at the time, BUT couldnt have boufght a nicer puppy from anywhere in the world.
would i do it again? no probaley not,but then i know more now<
To me I can understand comes from the heart more than thought :-). OF course you could have got as nice a puppy from a reputable breeder and one who you can bet your bottom dollar would back you up if any problems had arisen. Not left to chance which the inexperienced breeder would have.
Pet breeders try to go down the line of we breed for good natures. Show breeders do also but they breed for the whole package. Nature , healthy and quality.
I trim some westies and boy some of them are anything but a westie. Sold with the same " they have lovely natures". I have dogs from various show lines all with 100% sound and loving natures BUT in addtion to this the are of decent quality with touch wood unknown health problems.
Do you see my point?
I was at the vets last night and bumped into a girl who works at my dentist. They she had a young westie in her hand. The length of a bus. Anyway forgetting the quality she was at the vets as the dog had CMO both parents have to be carriers for this to happen. I bet the breeder didn't even know what it was. ANother one just having a pet litter but leaving others to pick up the peices.
I had a right arguement with one of the vets as he was generalising about the breed but they see the results of the pet bred puppies week in week out. Most of mine he has never seen.
Answearing to stroppimare :: Yes I agree with you on that point totally, but also good people do buy a puppy from these papers and give it a great home.I have advertise in the E@M,I have had a massive amount of people come and view the pups yet I have only let couple buy one of my pups, and that was after a lot of questions face to face.I have turned down a massive amount of people because I plain and simply did not feel comfortable with the idea of letting them have one of my pups. Now I am still holding onto 2 pups I could have sold 4 weeks, because I will wait untill someone I feel will give them a great home and plenty of love come's along. It's up to both buters and sellers on this one.I know a lot of crap people advertise in these papers but don't label us all because of them.

>JACK RUSSELL MINIATURE PUPPIES *Boys & girls, pocket size, micro chipped & vaccinated, £250. delivery can be arranged
What on earth is a "miniature" Jack Russell when its at home?? And yes, while I realise that some people will advertise pups for perfectly acceptable reasons, I'd run a mile from anywhere advertising "pocket-sized" versions of any reputable breed because it smacks to me of the very worst sort of exploitation.
If only people would realise that their desire to have a dog will be much better realised if they are prepared to wait - shocking as the idea of waiting for anything seems to be today!! - rather than putting money in the very large pocket-sized pockets of exploitative suppliers. There's always a good dog out there waiting for a good home if only people did their research first and recognised that you can't necessarily have the perfect pup tomorrow.
Why don't you just contact the Bullmatiff breeder and ask them what you want to know.I agree with you a lot of people do breed for money.I know a person and I'm in London who has a number of bitchs for breeding purpose only.He dose this by makeing deals with people,he will give someone a puppy bitch for free with the deawl that when it's old enough to breed he breeds it a gets half of all it's litters. He has 7-8 bitchs around the place that I know of,how many that I don't know of is another question. These people are every were.He has 2 litters a the moment that will be ready for sale just in time for the Christmas market. And believe me anyone with money can have a pup from him.
Sad thing to say charmed one but all the ads your talking about i've seen them myself, the one about the bullies is in cheshire and i think she's a puppy farmer myself(always advertised in the loot.quids in). The first ad you mentioned they breed dobermanns and bullmastiffs and there always on freeads and alot of the other advertising sites. I'd love to be able to say myself go to a show breeder but i dont think half of them are honest either, which i find really sad. In bullmastiffs i've yet to find a really good breeder who health tests there dogs and really has some compasion about bettering the breed, sometimes i wish i'd gone with my gut reaction and ran a mile. I've done a few shows now and the bitchiness and spite and generally foul people is a shame it's like they've never left school.

Hi Susan
I agree with you about the bitchiness and spite. Some of them are a load of bullys. I have learned to ignore them now and laugh at them as they do look quite sad. Glad its not just Dobe people that are bitchy, but I think you would find it hard to beat them. :-) What sad and lonley lives they must lead.... LOL You would think they would welcome new people to the breed as they are the future of it surely but oh no - they try and get them out as fast as they can...... tut And yes you are right not all show breeders are honest. Some are nice and genuine but I have found it to be a handful of people. As they say the show must go on. :-) One of them kindly told me my previous litter was far too expensive (even though it was just below the average)!!!!!!
Hi all,
I wanted a chocolate poodle - ive been waiting about 6 months for the right one to come along. I posted adds absolutly everwhere - when i finally got one the person replied to my adds on the free ad-mart site. Im still currently waiting for her and have sent a deposit - im not allowed her at the moment as shes in season which is fair enough. Im waiting as ive been desperate for this dog and to prove shes not being used for breeding purposes. I agree with the person who listed this saying that people who find it for free will still look after their dog. If id wanted a poodle willy nilly i could have had one, but i didnt really want a puppy as i have a 1 year old running around. I will look after this dog just as much as gettng her from someone reputable. Not being allowed her yet has allowed me to get to know everthing about her. I know im the right home for her.

You've met the bitch, of course, and know that she's been brought up with children ...
Unfortunatly i have not met the dog yet - she lives over 100 miles away from me. I know alot about the breed though, its not been an overnight decision - ive been waiting months. The current owner has told my mother she loves children and ive never known a toy poodle not to.
