I was wondering when the bitch had puppies how do you guys care for her?  I would like to know this because my bitch just had a litter of 15 puppies but 4 did not make it.  She had them on Friday night, and she is still bleeding.  Is this normal?  Also since she has 11 puppies to feed is there any concerns I should be aware of?  Also I gave my bitch a bath about a week ago but today I found a flea on one of the puppies is there anything I can do to get rid of fleas from puppies as I have used flea shampoo on the bitch but it is not working to kill all the fleas? Has the fleas developed a resistant because I after every bath I seem to still find live fleas on her?  I have placed newspaper on her whelping box and I have taken a warm towel and washed her teats daily.  Is there anything else you guys do?  As can see from my previous post this was not a planned breeding for me as I had just got her for a month.

She might continue to bleed for a few weeks after especially with 11 puppies. Just make sure she is kept clean and loss isn't foul smelling or a funny colour. I wojld try and get yourself some vet bedding for Mum and puppies to lie on, it's warm adn very absorbant. My bitch onyl had 6 but with so many puppies you really need to make sure they are all rotated and getting an even amount of time at the milk bar. So it might be worth putting 5 on and then once they have fed putting the other 6 on. Weigh them daily to make sure they are all gaining weight and if any are not make sure that puppy gets special attention.  I think you coulsd use Frontline for the fleas but you MUST read the instructions first. Make sure Mum is on a high quality food as she has alot of milk to produce.

Frontline spray is safe to use on the bitch and pups from two day of age, but not the Spot on treatment.

You may have to start weaning pups as soon as their eyes are open if weight gain slows sown or they seem hungry.  You can soak their puppy food mash it and add it to bitch milk replacer, any of the proprietray puppy milk formulas are good, but not cows milk.

The bitch will need at least 4 times her normal amount of food if not more, basicaly as much as she will eat every couple of hours, at least 4 meals a day with plenty of water.

Because theri mouths can get sore from all the cleaning I soak their complete food in as much water as it will take, this encourages food and water intake.

As the others have said Vet bed is almost a necesity as it keeps Mum and pups dry with all fluids pasing to the paper beneath.  With that many pups you will be hard pushed to keep them dry and clean without it.

Have you treated your home for flea's too ? I would advise you to use only flea treatments from your vets as these actually kill flea's unlike petshop products & flea's will also lay eggs in your soft furnishings, so its no good to just remove them from the dog, you have to do the house as well.
It's also worth remembering that flea's are an intermidiate host for worms :-(  again i'd use products from your vet. I'd have a chat with your vet with regards to all of this, as this is a new thing for you :-) & mum & pups will need worming ect, your vet can talk you through a regime for them.
Good luck :-)

Hi , Bitches do tend to bleed for a few days or weeks especialy delivering 15 puppies but it should stop sooner or later but if it doesnt or you are at all worried, best call the vet for some expert advice.

Fleas, i hate them so much, my dogs once got them from a friends dog who had passed them on to mine, it took me a few weeks to  propery get rid of them and i had to treat my entire house and it cost me alot too.

I decided to lift the carpets afterwards and replace them with wooden floors just incase of returning.I also had to throw away alot of other stuff too. :(

Keep your bitch very clean, wash her with a flea shampoo everyday, along with the puppys too, its best to treat your house as soon as possible if you have carpets, they will dwell in them and will containue to infect your bitch and puppys.

Good luck!
