Can't honestly remember what they settled on for names - think it was "Japanese Inu" for those most like the standard of the country of origin and there was mention of "Great Japanese Dog" but this was overturned for "Akita" for the numerically stronger and more commonly shown (in US & UK).
and that's just my recollection :rolleyes: so perhaps some Akita folks will be along soon ........ Teri :P
