It sounds in part what you have already been doing but it is very important that training in this way - any way for that matter - is 100% consistent by all household members. Young children tend to over excite pups and it is virtually impossible to get round a nipping situation with youngsters around who are quite naturally anxious to play with a puppy - the best solution if that scenario applies to your home is to limit the children and pup's contact with one another in the home except for structured times when you can keep an eye on things and give "time out" immediately should rough housing begin.
