I know this has been covered time and time again but I am getting more and more confused.
Can someone put it in simple terms about the annual booster.
My dogs are all due and I dont know if I should get them done or not, am I correct in thinking that they should all have Lepto but not any of the others.
Every year they have always had NOBI-VAC PP1 and the Lepto vac.

Two points to consider:

1) Some insurance policies are void if you do not vaccinate your dogs annually.
2) Some boarding kennels refuse dogs that have not had the required annual boosters.

Anyone whom answers this question, please state if you yourself titre test your dogs before you make the decision not to vaccinate or whether you take the risk of not vaccinating without checking titre levels first. Many thanks.

My dogs will never go in kennels so thats not an issue, regarding insurance policies does this apply to the whole policy or just if the illness they havent been vacinated against.

"My dogs will never go in kennels so thats not an issue"

Never say never! You do not know what lies around the next corner for yourself or your dogs ;)

With regard to insurance policies, read the small print. Insurance companies are very good at wriggling out of paying claims and if they can find any reason to find your policy void, they will. My post was to make people consider other matters arising from not vaccinating. Points that are not normally highlighted or considered :)

I would be inclined to check with the insurance company that they will cover other illnesses, as Admin points out Insurance Companies often seek the get out clause ;)and they may regard the lack of an annual checkup that accompanies the vaccination as a disregard in looking after your dogs good health generally.  Of course there is nothing to stop you popping the dog along for an annual check up to meet any such requirement.

I agree Isabel, but if the Lepto is annually you could have the check up done at the same time.

Of course, I was thinking of those who choose not to vaccinate at all really.  I think if you are following the minimum vaccination protocols the insurance company would be covering you anyway.

Sandie, this very much a subject under controversy and I can appreciate your confusion.

In the local area, all the vet practices (6) bar 1 have moved to the three year vaccinations for Parvo, hepatitis & distemper.  Lepto PI is still annual. You may find that when you take your dogs to the vet, they are doing them every third year, bar Lepto.

I titre test my dogs, although my vet has moved to the 3 year vaccination protocol.  This year they had Lepto only.

My insurance doc's state that they will not pay for fees arising from a condition for which a routine vaccination is available other than in respect of vaccine failure.   It doesn't state annual.  No doubt 'routine' is in respect of the vet's protocol.

And my dogs never go into boarding kennels.  But if they had to, I imagine some boarding kennels would accept the 3 yr vaccination protocol as directed by the vet.  There are some kennels accepting titre tests for boarders in the local area at the moment.

I have heard that some vets are starting to do Kennel Cough vaccination annually tho?  Maybe it's a regular thing elsewhere?

Mine have always had all the boosters every year, and we've never had any problems.

So far so have mine but I think this time I will ask about the 3 year vaccination, and the insurance should be ok because they will be covered if it is meant to last for 3 years.
