I've read on here a few comments on judges etc: do people keep a record of the judges name if they dont  get a place and just presume they dont like your dog ......so as not to enter them if that particiular judge is judging or do you enter them anyway ????  (does that make sense)

Hi Roni,

You'll soon find you don't need to keep a record - if you really don't like a judge be it approach, handling your dog, their manners (or lack of them) etc you tend to remember them and dismiss them for future entries.  In time you can learn whether or not a judge is worth showing under again if it's based simply on how your dog was or wasn't placed.  Sometimes we can feel strongly that our dog was "robbed" but on hindsight or with experience we may re-think that and come to realise that a) our dog was beaten by better dogs, b) it was immature compared to the others, c) we could have handled it and presented it better etc.

In a breed with numbers like your own, I'd be suprised if the same judges came up very regularly during which time your dog will be maturing and your handling skills improving and also your ability to make an unbiased assessment of your dog against it's competition will become better too.  Hence if the same judge crops up you'll know better whether or not it's worth entering under him/her again (bit long winded all that  sorry!)

Regards, Teri   :)

I dont know if you will find this useful but we keep the critiques from judges whether they have placed our dogs or not then read what they have written and see if it compares with what the dogs are actually like.  I have a hit list of judges who I felt we were overlooked by and there are some I know we didnt deserve to be passed over by!

I have a spreadsheet with a different page for each dog, then if a judge's name looks familiar I go and check. Once I thought a name looked familiar and the judge had given my boy 3rd in a big puppy class, so I tried him again and got BOB!! Mind you the other times I've repeated a judge I normally do worse! Definitely a useful aid to see when a judge has chucked your dog out and isn't worth the entry money though.

Dont forget a judge can still like your dog without choosing you - if that makes sense.
All depends on who you are in the class with at the end of the day. In a class of thirty , the judge can only choose five/six remember and it doesnt mean he doesnt like yours necessarily :) Just that number wise his hands are tied

I'd find reading the critics very interesting are they just in the dog papers or can you get them anywhere else?

Warm regards Susan

depends on the breed and whether the clubs have any websites up
Some of the websites will add the critiques to read :)
