Yes you can show him as long as he is KC registered. You will find that 99% of show dogs are also pets....that includes my 3 show dogs who are treated exactly the same as our non show dog.
Your best bet is to go along to a local ring craft where they will teach you how to show and also join a staffy breed club.

Hiya
I think if you train your dog everything under the sun your dog will get very board and fed up. My two sisters learnt this the hard way and i also think doing obedience with a show dog rewinds them. I am showing a veteran bitch that used to do a bit of obedience and she now side winds its a shame she's a lovely girl, and she wasn't pushed hard in obedience.

Disagre Fiona, My top handling aussie also done obedience.  I have done a little bit of winning with an agility dog who also goes into Junior handling with her owners daughter, everyone told me that she would be impossible to show, would charge round the ring and wouldn't trot...(she has also done working trials training I believe!)

I think you CAN train ALL disaplins HOWEVER they must be taken carefully and slowly making sure no cammands "clash" and simple things like leads are different.

If she's sidewinding have you tried moving her on the other side?  She may just be doing it out of pure laziness!!!!

Well our brown standard was doing it with his other owners behind out back! And he was trying to weave while mum was showing him, yes i have tried on the other side and it doesn't work i have my views on it and my opinion is not to do obedience with a show dog. Agility is another matter as you can work around it and get the dog to stand before starting

You cannot start to consider doing manwork until your dog is fully trained & under total control, you would need to find a working trials or schutzhund club to train at

Manwork is not something I would consider appropriate for at the average show or pet dog

Working bred dogs in the right hands are perfectly safe, man work is one of the last things you shoul dbe thinking of at this time

I show and breed and have kept the pups I bred with a view to showing.  They are Pets 365 days a year, and show dogs about 20 :D

I think the best people to advise you are the GSD clubs...they will know more about specialist things such as man work

As an Ex WT & Schutzhund handler(only ex as I don't have a dog eligible or able to compete The first thing you must have before manwork is even considered is a fully under control dogs

BAGSD branches do not teach manwork at all & the WT or schutzhund clubs expect your dog to be basic obedience trained before starting training for anything else

If your dog is show bred it isn't very likely you would be very successful in Schutzhund as the schutzhund working bred dogs are very high drive dogs far higher than any show(even full german bred show)dogs, however it doesn't mean you cannot complete & get the qualifications just that you would not be likely to qualify for the top events(like international competitions)

There is a trial in Yorkshire for schutzhund next week end The tracking is in cheshire but the obedienvce & protection is at Brighouse

June 18th & 19th
Judge: Ad vanYperen (VDH)
Tracking (Saturday) - Daresbury, Cheshire
Obedience and Protection (Sunday) - White Rose Ground, Brighouse, Yorkshire
