Topic Dog Boards / Health / Could it be kennel cough

My 4 month old JR pup keeps coughy choking like he has something lodged in his throat.  But then it stops for 10-30 mins before he starts again.  When he drank water it set him off too.
Is this what Kennel cough sounds like or should I really worry that something is lodged?

I'd take him to the vet on Monday to check it out. Kennel cough can linger on for a long time if you delay treatment.

Took him to vet last night in the end after chatting on phone to them.  I was also worried because he picks up everything and eats it he had something lodged in his throat.
Vet has checked him, and of course he had stopped the coughy choke just as we left to go to vets, and the only way he could get him to do it was to squeeze his throat.  Lungs, airways and tempreture were normal.
He concluded he may have the start of Kennel Cough which we will now have caught nice and early or he could have had something small and irritating lodged in his throat which he has managed to now shift, or he could have swallowed something that scratched and irritated his throat, or because of his allergies he could have had a reaction to something he ate.
Anyway he gave him antibiotic injection and anti- inflamatory injection also gave me some antibiotics to start him on tonight and I have to take him back on Monday as he may need more antis.
However he hasn't coughed once since, and he sleeps with me so I would have heard the slightest thing,  so do you think I can safely assume it isn't Kennel Cough?

Hi my dogs had kennel cough and they brought up a white flemy bile and they coughed for a lot of the time, but they also had weepy eyes!

good luck with your pup

hope he has not got it

No he hasn't thank goodness.  i was so worried as I am running a dog show on Sunday.
Anyway he hasn't coughed once since Sat evening, so must have done something to make his throat irritate and get sore.
