Does anyone know of any Shows that are geared towards Westies only.   I have a pup and would be really interested to attend a show breed specific.

Yes, contact your breed club, and they'll tell you when and where their next show is going to be. If you're planning to show your puppy, and you go ahead with the planned spaying, you should obtain a permission to show letter from the Kennel Club though.

What part of the country are you in?

You will need to find a ring craft to help you but let us know where you are so we can tell you the best show to go to. Loads coming up just now all over the UK.

I would advise gainst spaying if you want to show as you won't be able to kep the coat as it should be once spayed. :D

looked in my show diary for Westie Champ shows and you have missed the Westie show in April and next ones aren't until October.

As this is a numerically strong breed you would do just as well to go on Terrier day of one of the General Championship shows.

Birmingham National show is Next week at The County showground at Stafford.  Terriers are on Sunday the 8th May (along woith my won group Hounds). :D

Whereabouts are you as the fortnight later is the Scottish Kennel Club show and Bath Championship show at the end of May.

Please dont even consider having her spayed before she has had at least 2 seasons unless there are VERY good reasons - ie you have a male dog too. If you do have an adult  male dog that you dont show it would be much easier to have him neutered. Vets rarely tell you about the downside of spaying, like the percentage of them that have degrees of urine incontinece afterwards - they just terrify everyone with the threat of pyometra or cancer - which actually a very very few bitches ever suffer from. If you want to show then dont give it a second thought - you will have lots of problems keeping the coat looking good, she will becopme a fluff ball.

Not really sure about the cancer risk but we certainly seem to hear of quite a few pyometras on here.  The incontinence problem seems to centre on a few specific breeds.  Not all coats are ruined by spying either some don't really change at all, I remember a very big winning Sheltie a few years back that was spayed (because of pyometra if my memory serves me correct ;)) whose coat appeared to benefit greatly from the operation, much muttering at the time about spayed bitches being allowed to be shown :).
I'm not really for or against spaying, it always needs to be decided individually in my opinion, I am just posting this in the interest of some balance :)
