Can someone please let me know if I can take my dawgy on public transport??  We are planning a jaunt this week and are carless so are having to rely on buses and trains.  Cheers :-)

I would ring the bus company and rail company concerned and ask for their advice ..they are all different and some may allow free dog travel and some may not

Thanks Melodysk, I'll get in touch with companies and find out.  I think Jess would rather enjoy a day out on the buses and trains!!  :-)

Buses in Edinburgh are free for dogs and I've seen really BIG dogs on them as well.  Try to avoid the busy times though as paws get stepped on.  Trains were free for dogs as well the last time I took a dog on one.  Taxis are a problem - drivers are never keen to take dogs.

Hi, I've often taken my dogs on the train - have never had to pay, but on the bus they charge 50p.  The dogs prefer the train to the bus, as they don't like the hissing noise the doors make!

I took my dog on a steam train and he loved it too. I had to buy him a ticket at child prices, so I thought 'if I had to buy him a ticket, then he can have a seat' so I let him sit by the window looking out in amazement.

I have taken 3 Elkhounds on the train no trouble.  What you should try and do is find the one and only disabled bay on thetrain and hope it isn't needed by a disabled person.

This is the only place that soesn't have tables between the seats.

The trouble with the tables is that people can't see the dogs so can either tread on them, or not notics them and get starteled when something brushes agains their legs :D

If I can't use that place I usually prefer to sit out by the loos and doors at least everyne can see the dog there and if it isn't a train that stops at every station then they can still get some rest.

My local bus company doesn't charge for dogs, but other towns I have been to charge child fare or a flat fare.  Few Taxi drivers will take dogs, and apart from hair or the possibility of the dog being sick I can't see why? :D

When you see some of the human specimens they take home when the clubs shut you wonder why they are so particular  :)
