Yet more evidence:
Taken from
sky'BONKERS' CONKERS BAN
Children have been banned from playing conkers by council chiefs - unless they wear goggles.
They say the youngsters could be injured by shrapnel from conker battles and recommended schools axe the years-old playground favourite
But headteacher Shaun Halfpenny found a way around the ban.
He bought his children goggles that are usually used in science lessons.
Now children are queuing up to face-off.
Mr Halfpenny, head of Cummersdale Primary School, in Cumbria, said: "The children asked to play conkers in school and I thought it would be really mean to say 'no'.
"This is a rural custom that should not die. You can't wrap children up in cotton wool all the time, you have to let kids be kids."
Cumbria County Council and the Department of Education say individual schools should decide if they believe it is safe for kids to play the game.
