Rather "nerve racking" incident today while taking Sal for a walk;
   As I was walking with Sal off lead about 15ft in front of me a group/pack of about 7 dogs charged out of the bushes from the path that leads to and from the river/stream. Two of them were Rottie X's )due to markings and size I judged that) and all 7 made straight for Sal.
The two RottieX's were growling and I was almost running now when a man appeared. I called to a man  "Are they friendly" he said "Yep, but not to black dogs" Now as Sal is mainly black I panicked then (now I think he may have been joking) I called her back and hooked her onto her lead and carried on the  way we were going no incident nothing. The two RottieX's followed us and I called back to the man to tell him he shouted back "They USUALLY follow me if they don't don't panic, they'll go home eventually"
Well after about 5 mins they wandered off in the general direction the man had gone. But he made no effort more then a gentle "Hey come on" to call his dogs back.
So glad Sal is not nervous or aggresive, the whole incident could have ended easily in tears.
Karen (The man did not appear to be a bad owner just Very Very Very laid back)

Yes, it could have, but luckily it didn't. :) Possibly if he'd been stressed then his dogs might have picked up on that and reacted differently. I don't know, but it's food for thought.

Yep you may be right I just had the impression his dogs were "well behaved" but not what you would call "obedient" ;)

Mmmm

Occasionally, when i am caught off guard and Rocky is off lead adn there is a 'victim' type dog ahead (that'd be anything small, male, in-your-face, poodle, collie, beardie..........there is a type, but its hard to describe).... the absolute WORST thing i can do, is shout at him.

Second to that , i must NOT go and get him, the closer i get to the other dog, the more likely it is there will be an incident.

So, if you ever meet a black and tan wire haired staffie x, with the owner walking briskly in the OTHER direction, shouting 'come on then, hurry up'...... im NOT being irresponsible, im trying to defuse the situation!

I must point out...... in all the 'incidents' we have had.. not one has resulted in bloodshed (nor was ever likely too!), he just pins dogs down and asserts his dominance in a VERY unacceptable way!

You have a good point there I never considered that he may have been doing that :) although I certainly did not get the impression he was irresponsible or uncaring. Just laid back
