
Hi Debbie, this is not something I have ever considered before. I don't see any need. Also I would think it would not be good for your carpets and clothing. Perhaps someone else can think of a reason to rub oil into the pads.
Well exercised dogs have smooth, quite soft pads because they are worn on rough surfaces. Poorly exercised dogs will have rough hard pads, not to mention long nails. It is of course advisable to check your dogs feet after exercise, for cuts and other damage. I had one that got a pine needle embedded in one of his pads, I didn't notice it for a few days and it wouldn't come out once I found it. He needed an operation to remove it, a fragment had migrated up his pastern.
But oil? Nahh.
