Beattie came back from her Sunday-morning walk favouring one leg. We carefully examined each foot for wounds (none) and felt each leg for heat or swelling (none). By Sunday evening she couldn't put any weight on her left fore, so that narrowed down which leg was injured. Still no sign of anything amiss. On Monday it was no better, but we could see some bruising on one pad. She's been kept at home when the others go out (getting very fed up), but tonight one toe is enormously swollen. Off to see the vet, who reckons she's twisted the toe on the hard ground and has an infection. :(

That's what Harry did a couple of years ago and ended up having the toe amputated. Keep your fingers crossed that the antibiotic treatment works better for beattie than it did for him. I don't want to go through that again.

My Alfie broke his toe not long ago and it swelled up to double the size, has the vet looked at it yet? Can't see how it can get infected if there is no broken skin. Maybe Beattie has broken her toe too. The vet gave us the most fantastic painkillers that took the pain off within 20 mins and helped take the swelling down.
We couldn't walk him for 2 weeks then after that we leash walked him for 4 weeks. He started to get depressed because he wasn't getting out so we put him in a pushchair and took him out with our other dog, he liked that better than being kept indoors. After 6 weeks in total he was fine and could run at top speeds again.  The toe is still a little bigger than the rest and always will be now, but it doesn't bother him in the slightest. Hope Beattie gets better soon.
