I everyone, for all those who asked to be kept posted on Jennifers conditon - she is still at the Vets, following her X rays.  the jaw is fractured, but as she is so small and so young, the bone is tiny (about 1mm x 1.5 mm at the break) so cannot be pinned or have ap late attatched.  So the vets advise is to immobilise the jaw for 3 weeks with a muzzle.  As she wont be able to eat they are keeping her in over night to insert a feeding tube tomorrow, and she will have ot be tube fed for the 3 weeks, of course, she gets to wear an Elizabethan collar too!  Seh is being incredibly brave, and I can jsut pray she is not too stressed by the muzzle!
bye

Oh bless her.  What a start for a puppy! :(
Plenty of TLC when she gets home, I'm sure! ;)

A-w-w-w....the poor thing. I am so sorry she and you are going through this. But she'll recover I'm sure.

Someone really needs to know about that vicious dog. They really do, no matter what. That dog may kill a child someday.

I send my prayers to you and your little girl.

Oh poor little Jennifer! :( I hope she won't be too traumatised after all this. What a lot for a pup to go through - and you too of course. Are you still in shock after it?
- By gwen [gb] Date 25.05.04 17:53 UTC
I am indeed.  Jennifer is being an angel and has won everyones hearts at the Vets.  I am dreading the  next 3 weeks, with the tube feeding!

Hi Gwen, I think you are behaving in a very responsible way, under the cicumstances. I work in a town where every second dog(or so it seems) has been bred to be 'fiesty'. Alot of the owners are involved in drugs in one way or another. Having witnessed fights (humans) involving these people and baseball bats I truly can sympathise with your feelings.

Concentrate on getting Jennifer well again. Your posts are sounding stronger, if you get my drift. I hope you are getting over the shock of what happened. And I truly hope jennifer, and not fogetting Jerry, will be back in the ring before too long.

Jerry is a little lost, but coping very well all things considered (not only Sundays trauma, but first night ever without his sister, now!)  But strangest thing at Ringcraft this evening.  He was perfectly OK with all the dogs he saw, until a Bulldog walked past, and he lost it, growling and barking.  Calmed down easily, then a Bull Terrier stood next to him in line and he backed right off, trembling,  both these dogs are laid back to the point of being laid down, if you see what I mean, and neither were the same colour as the dog in the attack, nor even the same size.  I cant understand what he saw in these 2 to fear, but not the rest of the class.  We are going to work on some nice, calm , confidence building.

Glad to hear the little one is doing better :) I hope she keeps getting better, good luck with the tube feeding and all the obsticles to come :)

I no the decision is yours, but I was wondering would it of made a difference if this dog killed yours? Just curious :(

Hi Dollface, I have thought lots and lots about this whole question.  I think one of the biggest sticking points for me is that I have been serioulsy against the DDA since it was brought in.  I havent been an active campaigner, but I have signed loads of petitions, written letters when asked, made donations, etc. etc.  So do I have a right to throw my moral convictions to the wind just becasue it was my own dog attacked?  Even putting aside the pracitical difficulties I previously mentioned of getting the boys details, etc, and my fear of reprisals, should you put aside your own strong principles just because you are the one affected?  If she was killed or injured was, I think, a matter of luck .  The bitch lost her hold on Jennifer throat after she flung her down on the gound, and I think probably grabbed the face by mistake.  The attack was certainly lethal in intent, so whilst I would be much more upset, I think my overall decisions would be just the same.

On the practical front, I talked to someone last night who also had a dog attacked by an APBT a couple of years back.  She knew the owner and the dog - they lived close by.  Her dog was quite badly hurt too, and needed surgery.  Never recovered enough to be shown again, either.  She did report it to the police, and they refused to act, as the guy was a known local "nutter" and was frequently aggressive to the police,  she didnt want her name to appear on a complaint in case he took revenge, and the police could not guarantee anoninimity to her!  However, it does go to show that perhaps the police are not quite so keen on persuing the DDA in this area!

Back from Vets with Jennifer, wearing a pretty pink bandage on one leg, and weird permenant muzzle contraption, and a big palstic collar.  However, she is bright as a button and desperate for food!  Vet though out a new procedure, as he said her ahd worried all night about the intended tube feeding with the immovable muzzle.  So he did some research and rang someone in Canada,  and has come up with a sort of "muzzle splint" which allows absolutely no sideways movement of the jaw, but very small up and down, so allowinig her to lap and drink.  So far she has been a very, very goo girl and not tried to take any of the contraptions off, but the pugs are giving her a bit of a wide berth! :)  So happy to have her home

Just wondered how the pup is doing now?  My dog got bitten tonight at a properly run puppy party at our vets.  Sally (my pup) is fine but the other pup is clearly aggressive and the owner has no control over it.

Anyway, sorry to ramble, hope your little one is doing ok.

Hi, so sorry to hear about your pup, hope not hurt too badly, or scared?  I am not altogether convinced that some of these Vets puppy party things are a good idea!  Lots of them seem to be unruly and a bit dangerous.  Hope the other pups owner was given advice about training and control.  Jennifer is doing fine - she has been so good and is not trying to remove the muzzle, dressing, etd.  She is eating (well, sort of sucking up) the special smooth food we got, but is clearly not impressed by it!  So I am having to take greatest care that none of the others drop any little bits of food on the floor that she might somehow "hoover" up!
bye
