I have filled in my dogs entry forms and have sent it to the secretery of the show, and i have filled in everything correctly, does the secretery of the show send something back so you can get in the show?, or do you just go?, it's a champ show.

If it is a general Champ show you will get entry tickets and what ever else is needed, if it is a club show you may well get nothing.

Make sure you get proof of posting and then if you have entered you go, and you will be allowed to exhibit and should the KC ask you you will have proof.

Hi Jackie H,
Talking to a show secretary recently, (obedience though, not breed showing), he said he wouldn't accept proof of posting, reckons it doesn't prove it's a show entry.  Said if you include an SAE with your entry, that can then be posted back to you as proof with show/entry details written on.
He did actually turn somebody away from the show we went to, who's entry had not been received by him.  Since he said that, I do actually enclose SAE's with any entries now, just in case!

If he turned away someone who's entries had not been received he was breaking the KC rules

They are quite clear, a second entry form & fee is paid the dog is shown & the matter is reported to the KC who are the onlyauthority who can disqualify a dog from the competition.

If the person had a POP(proof of posting)then they will keep whatever awards the dog wins

The exhibitor has the right to compete & the kennel club has the right to disqualify if no evidence of posting is produced

The exhibitor who was turned away should have complained to the KC & even if they did not have POP the secretary would be censured at the very least

I run a breed & obedience show & have done for many years & have also had my entries not recieved & I always have a POP & have never not been allowed to show my dog

I do wish that some secretaries would check the rules before they act. The secretary has to have a cuurent copy of the KC rules n regs(issued free each year to the secretary I get two LOL)

SAE are just not needed & add to the work secretaries have to do when entries close

Mixed champ shows tend to send tickets/removal pass/catalogue voucher ( if ordered) etc a couple of weeks befor ethe show. Breed only champ shows dont tend to send anything and you just turn up ( well in my breed anyway- if other breeds are different I apologise)

Thanks for that info Moonmaiden!  The person that was turned away didn't actually have anything with her to prove that she had posted her entry.  Maybe a lot of exhibitors (like myself!) don't actually know what to do in such a situation.  Anyway, I hope this lady did complain to the KC as obviously the show secretary was abiding by his own rules then.

Only know about Showing type competition and no one, apart from the KC can stop anyone showing, they do not have to have proof of entry with them. The only exception being if the dog is aggressive, then and only then can you be asked to remove it. Don't know the rules with obedience and agility they may well be different and although I have the Red Book I hope you will excuse me if I don't go and read it for you. (have a headache) The KC will answer the question if you e-mail them.

:)

The rules are exactly the same Jackie(been running Obedience shows since 1975 for my sins)

A few Obedience shows require entries to be received by a certain date, that is also not in the KC rules, I don't know how the schedules get past the KC

I must admit to be being very lenient over the receipt of the entry forms as long as I can get them to the printer in time I will accept them, especially as the post is quite slow at present. It would be lovely for all entries to be done over the net I know my printer would be happy especially if the dogs KC numbers were linked to the KC computer so dogs could be entered in the lowest class automatically

I think the most annoying is people who win out of a class after the qualifying date & ask to have the dog moved up in class Grrrr  :O that is against the KC rules(doesn't matter whether you have sent off  your dog's entries  or not It would also be nice to get the entries early too, helps me gauge if we need extra judges(which will probably need to do this year )

Thanks for the info MM, I know that the agility people have some sort of ballot and if you don't win a place on the ballot they can't compete, or something like that. Guess if you always have your head in the Red Book too, you will understand my reluctance to read it when I don't have to. ;)

I'm the chief steward so am the first in line if things go wrong or people want answers so I'm forever nipping on the KC site to see what delights they have brought in ;) I'm just glad that our show is in June rather than July so at least major changes don't hit us for a year by which time people should have got used to the changes

Now this year we have the new test A classification & changes to the stays from last year (which I have to give to our none obedience Chief Stay steward, he's a damn good organizer tho' :D)

& we only found out about a show being cancelled that will impact on our show meaning more judges & rings etc to sort out & if good qualified breed judges are hard to find a good obedience judge is like finding  hens teeth

I'm only the assist. sec. but as the Secretary is the Show Manager I'm the sitting target when someone has a problem so I have got to know the little red book pretty well over the years. You are so right about judges, and you can't know them all in person so you have to take recommendations from people and breed clubs, trouble is some peoples idea of a good judge is the one who likes there dogs, human nature I suppose but not helpful. Well good luck with your show ours is a bit sooner May 23rd and I have all the prize cards to print yet.
