I thought Yorkies only came in one size?

Your right Digger they do only come one size, of course, you can get the runt of the litter that may be small and I suppose there may be some unscrupulous breeders who breed runt to runt and in the end produce an undersize litter, that they can sell at inflated prices.

it is true there are some very bad breeders out there yorkies do not come in one size i have said this before my yorkie weighs 4llb he come with a very good pedigree  lot of champion and also  osmilion line def not the runt of any litter the lady is looking for a yorkie within the breed standard not over sized she is looking for the smaller type4-5 lb you do have to be careful i agree  from my experience the over sized are the one one that are more likely to be un healthy i have had yorkies for many years they are diff colours  some blu gold some blue tan some silver some steel i think your comments are not nice

No breed of dog comes in one size there are those who are larger than average and those who are smaller but there is no such think as a miniature Yorkshire Terrier. I am sure yours is well bred and if you re-read I said that poor breeders may breed one undersized dog to another undersized dog in an attempt to produce undersize puppies to meet a demand. I did not suggest that good breeders can't or do not breed undersize dogs, just that they would not then breed from them to try to produce undersize any more than they would from oversize.

>> she is looking for the smaller type4-5 lb <<

You may be privy to what the lady wants but the title says Miniature Yorkshire Terrier and she goes on to ask if anyone knows of breeders of Miniature Yorkshire Terriers

Is it possible to know when the pups are born which will be 4lb or less and which will be 8, if so the lady should put her name down on the lists of several breeders and then wait for a small if she wants a 5lb or undersize (if less) pup to be born. If it is not possible to know what the finished sizes will be then perhaps the lady should either accept what ever size she gets or try for a smaller breed.

I was actually sitting with a copy of the breed standard for yorkies when I seen this post. I too have had yorkies for a number of years and so have other family members. I have to agree, there is no such thing as a 'miniature', the breed standard is 'up to 7lbs'. There are however lots of yorkies around that are at the smaller end of the scale. I am not too sure why though, maybe this is an attempt by some 'breeders' to make them smaller. The word miniature is used by some breeders when advertising pups and this misleads the public. When looking to buy a yorkie (as with other breeds) it is so important to look thoroughly and through proper channels. This is another breed of dog that joe public has chose to breed from to make money and hence the large numbers that do not live up to the breed standard and also develop serious health problems as a result. My mother in law bought her yorkie as advertised as a 'miniature'. My current yorkie was a rescue and she is absolutely tiny. My previous one from a reputable breeder was larger but within the standard. So my advice for the Guest would be to reseach different breeders to find a puppy.

Hi All,
I breed yorkies asweli. i also have 4 yorkies,3 all roughly the same size weighing from 3 pounds to 7 pounds, and one yorkie that i thought would have been in the breed standard and she now weighs 16 pounds, i did breed her and she had 7 very healthy puppies, but the runt only weighed 4oz when born and the biggest weighed 7 pounds by the time he left at 11 weeks.one thing i do is i don't advertise them as minature breeds, as i would say there is no such thing as a minature. there is one woman i was told about who breeds the smallest of dogs to produce small pups, i don't think it is fair as a good majority of them die because they are so small to survive.if my yorkie that weighs 3 pounds and was a bitch i certainly would not breed from it.
that is my opinion.
