I have a 10 mth old trained to go out pug and am thinking about getting a new puppy that's paper trained. Will my outside trained dog revert to going in the house if she sees the new puppy doing it?

You could avoid the possibility of this happening by teaching the new pup to go outside.  It's never a good idea to encourage a pup to toilet in the house on paper.  Sally

Quite possibly. Paper-training is usually a mistake. If you get the new pup, don't put paper down, and train it properly.

That sounds like really good advice. Thank you both. I don't know why I didn't think of that.

JG - Just wanted to clarify... when you say don't put paper down do you mean at all or just during the day?  I've not been using it during the day but do put it down at night - not that it really matters as the floor is ceramic tiles and I've got a great mop ;)

I try to catch her as soon as she wakes up but often she's standing and having a wee before her eyes are fully opened  Trust me to get a dog who uses my own 'bumping into walls wakes me up' methods ;)

Personally, I put a piece of newspaper by the backdoor at night, but that is all. None at all during the day. I don't want my pups learning that it's okay to mess on the newspaper - very inconvenient if you haven't finished reading it! (Believe me, it's happened!)

Just use paper in the cage at night, for my convenience not the pups, and yes the others will cock their leg on the cage if soiled paper is not removed and the area sprayed. If you praise the pup for using the paper the older dog will do so too looking for praise and all it is likely to get is a boot up the bum ;)

lol - I have noticed my older dog getting a few bad habbits but thankfully they have only been minor offenses (murdering of a cuddly toy, recall sometimes not quick as I'd like etc).

The faster we can crack this housetraining the happier we'll all be :)

Not really relevant to this thread, but I was so chuffed yesterday.

My latest pup was 4 months on Saturday, and along wityh her littermates never messed in the house once on their feet as had the benefit of back doodr open all the time.  Of course as the weather got colder I had to shut the door and had to do the opening and inviting pup out to perform every half hour, and as long as I did this she was perfect.  Of course if the door was closed when she needed to go and I iddn't notice, then I got a puddle on the floor.

Several times I had ben a little too late opening the door, but it was right after she had done it, and I would say Oh Lexiii!  and tell her to go iout to wee outside.  She would oblige by doing a tiny wee.

I was finding when I had left her for a short time when shopping etc, that accidents were getting less frequent (and she has never done a poo indoors).

I had taken the kids for Sunday lunch and on retuyrn was pleased to find no wee.  She performed when let out.  Later that evening I heard her barking in the kitchen, and there she was asking to go out, straight for a wee she went, at last the idea had clicked, and she knows how to ask to go out, and that doing it even on kitchen floor is not wanted.  I was chuffed!!!
