Hello everyone

Me and Laura were wondering if you guys could help us ?

We now have our amazing ickle baby westie, he is 9 weeks old and he is so great. We have had him for a week now and we love him to bits. Our question though, and what we need help with is, in the week he lives with laura, and at weekends laura and jack (the pup) come and live with me. I have a 14 yr old mungrel, the two were introduced last weekend, and there was no barking or biting or trouble at all. Which we were very happy about, we everytime we put them together they were both held because jack is so small and weak, so we wanted to be safe.

This weekend jack is back again, and again there is no trouble, but sweep (the older dog) seems to be kinda scared of the puppy. We put them together to say hello, and sweep will be ok for a few moments, but then he seems to get very unsure about the puppy and he quickly moves away as if he is frightened.  Has anyone got any advice on how we can make sweep feel better, and not scared of the little pup ?

We really want them to get on, they are both great friendly dogs to people. And we love them both

Luv Simon and laura

I would give Sweep his space so that he feels comfortable with Jack. If he wants to move away let him they may never be bestest buddies but as long as they are happy about being together that will be fine.
My Una was 11 when we got Cava who is now 2 and while Una is boss lady they play together often initiated by Una and also sleep on the same bed. We just let them sort it out between themselves.

Older male dogs often seem scared of young pups. It seems to be because they are kind of unpredictable in their movements and tend to dash about without much warning. Just keep an eye on them, I'm sure they will be fine once they've got to know each other. Once the pup learns to show doggy body language they will be great pals.
