Hi everyone, i should be in bed i am shattered!but i am far too excited, we are going to pick Lola up in the morning! they dont open until 11 oclock, dont think i can wait that long, one question though, what is the best lead to buy for a puppy who thinks she can fly (cant wait for these obedience classes!!)pet shop suggested half chocker !i hope this is not what i should be using i hate the thought of them , it has been 15years since i had a puppy and i know she is going to be a challenge(one i am relishing) any ideas?Regards Sue T.

Why do you hate half chokers? they are excellent type of collar. when adjusted properly they fit snugly like a buckle collar, but when not pulled tight they are nice and loose, especially good with a thick or long coated dog, as they don't wear the coat around the neck as much.

They cannot hurt the dog, as when pulled tight they just tighten to the width of the dogs neck. Also the sound ot the chain being checked alerts the dog to the fact that it is pulling, and once trained is enough to get the dog to slacken it's pace, in order to have that nice loose collar.

A half choke is different from a full choke. I would never (unless extreme circumstances) use a full one, but I use a half one all the time. You set it so it can only close up so far - keeps the dog from being able to back out. You can get a nylon kind from pets at home for puppies - nylon around the main part and a little chain for the closing part.

VERY good things:)

Hi everyone i showed just how long it has been since i have had a puppy havnt i ! thanks for your help and Lola is now the proud owner of a red chocker (with lead to match /i must admit i thought it was like the old chocker i was told to use on my Irish Setter some years ago, i was told this would control her on the lead, it didnt she pulled all the more the only lead she was ever any good on was her show lead .anyway as you may have gathered The Lola has landed , she caused quite a stir when we collected her this morning she is very aptly named ,quite a show girl!!!!! so as i sit here emailing you she is sitting by my feet a picture of innocence, i think this may be the lul before the storm!!but i cant tell you how wonderful it was to snuggle up to this little bundle of energy on the way home , doesnt that sound great, home with a pooch in it . it just didnt feel the same you know , and i think Chloe would approve!
