I'm in the New Forest, Hampshire. Am i the only dog mad poster from this area? surely not?!

I don't know if you are the only Champdogger in the New Forest, but we are thinking of moving that way when we have to move in a couple of years - other half would be working at Swanwick - we have just been a little put off with some reports of the traffic being bad in the summer months (we would have to live on the eastern side of the New Forest). I am also concerned about there being a lot of roaming horses etc, my dogs are not hugely reliable with wildlife

Any good tips on nice areas, to live, schools and obviously walks. We are planning a visit next month to check it out, would be great to have a few hints first

Hi i live on the south coast of the new forest, and i love it. Not many wild ponies where i live. Ponies aren't much of a problem in the towns, but some villages do have free ponies. They aren't usually bothered by dogs but i agree it can bother the dogs - mine included. The forest is a great place to walk the dogs, and if you go in the enclosures there shouldn't be any ponies in there as its all fenced in. The only problem i have with the new forest is the the house prices are expensive and it can become quite busy in the summer with tourists. I'm afraid i don't relly know the eastern side though, so i can't really advise there. Personally i wouldn't live any where else, and neither would my dog!
