Topic Dog Boards / Health / WORRIED ABOUT YORKIE PUP

Our Yorkie - Pixie - is coming up for 6 months. She's been acting a bit strange this week, but today she's actually been yelping once every now and then for no apparent reason. She's not bleeding or even spotting as far as we can tell but I was wondering if it could be her first season causing her pain and/or confusion. Could that be possible or is it more likely to be something else entirely? I appreciare a message board may not be a quick enough means to assess this situation, and I may end up having to take her to the vet today before I get a reply, but if anyone's online now, I would really appreciate some feedback.

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim,
I've never known the onset of a season to cause any discernable pain in a bitch. How is she otherwise? Is she eating and drinking normally? Is she playing happily in betweentimes, or is she depressed and lethargic? If she is otherwise normal I would tempted to just keep an eye on her (if she were mine), but if you have any doubts then your vet is the best person to put your mind at rest.

Sorry I can't be more help.

As Jeangenie says, seasons don’t usually cause any pain although can make a bitch irritable. Try wiping her with a toilet tissue immediately after standing after a sleep so any discharge has drained down. You will soon see then if there is any discharge.

In view of the yelping I think it advisable for you to get to a vet because there would appear to be something causing pain somewhere. Please let us know how things go.

Regards, John

I've got a bitch that suffers from pain before and during her season. However, it is best to get her checked bu a vet to rule out any other possibilities.
