My Myka (spayed Norwegian Elkhound bitch) was 14 in December, and apart from the Muscle wastage to her head (MMM) which she has had for years, and deafness for the last year or so, she is physically fit, and takes a 4 - 6 mile walk in her stride.
I lost her half sister on 8th April, and for the first time since January 1995 I have an only dog.
She seemed understandably a little confused and needy, and even more social and keen to interact with any dogs and their people on walks. In fact she is keener than ever for walks, now we are not going at Inka's latterly reduced pace and distance.
Then at the beginning if this week she started acting really oddly, confused, distressed wirh trembling.
Alternating between wanting constant reassurance, then acting afraid of objects like her food bowl. She does eventually eat if not watched, but I caught her making several attempts to get up the nerve last night.
She won't take a treat, and ignored her dentastic for most of the day.
Then she happily goes to her bed, at ither times circles and circles, then suddenly leaping onto sofas ( have put chairs across to keep her off).
On Thursday took her to Vets, and.we are trying her on Vivitonin.
Now vet has given me the 50mg tablets 1 twice a day (so 100mg a day) but data sheet as I read it says 100mg twice daily for a 20kg dog.
I did ring to query, but that vet is on annual leave, and no-one has rung me back yet.
So am I underdosing, and gas anyone found Vivitonin helpful?
