I can't defend this particular 'rescue set up' IF it's true that they pay for the ex-breeders and I don't know that, but I think some may be a tad quick to point fingers.
Another way to look at what's going on with the ex-breeding stock they have in there, is rather than encouraging puppy farms/BYBs by removing their ageing breeding stock to make way for younger dogs, might it be that they are getting them out of where they are (rescuing them) so any abuse that's going on (over-breeding) is stopped? And they are not over-charging for those they home (£250. on average) after all.
They are bringing a lot of street strays back to the UK from Romania and other E.European countries and hopefully placing them in homes where they'll have a far better life? JMO - as a (ex) Home Checker for them. My HC experiences with them have been all good - it's just this latest, from a potential adoptee, that I'm not so happy about.
@ Deeann. Their requirement that any original house pets must be neutered didn't sit well with me either - my old boy was entire to the end of his days and no way would it have been any different. I don't understand how that is relevant as long as those dogs they home are neutered. I'm looking around now because Teazel was spayed at a year old.
