Topic Dog Boards / Health / Which flea / tick spot on ?
- By St.Domingo Date 22.06.19 09:59 UTC
I'm leaving my toy size dog with family while I go on holiday, and they have land which has rabbits and foxes on so I'd like to prevent any problems.
I've used a product before from PaH, but I can't for the life of me remember which and I don't recognise any of the packaging.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.

We used Wilko Flea and Tick collars for years. Excellent.

I think I've tried every available spot on and collar and the only thing that truly kills deer ticks on our lot is bravecto, anything else is just a waste of money.

I appreciate that lots of people use alternatives and never have a problem, but I suspect that's more to do with the area and the type of coat the dog has.

My whippet friends don't use anything and walk in the same places as I do and only pick up the very occasional tick (like once a year or less), if mine aren't treated they can have 10+ ticks on them after a walk, clearly the long soft coat makes easy climbing for the little blighters!

Is this the toy poodle? I would imagine that coat would be easily scaleable for ticks

Edited to say I know you are worried about fleas and ticks, but I've never had fleas in decades of dog ownership, ticks are the greater menace for me

I totally agree that the longer coats makes such a difference to how many ticks are picked up.

and the close dense coats of my breed seem to be difficult for them, and I have only very rarely got a tick on mine and that is on the head.
