- By Bevsmithsdogs [gb] Date 03.06.19 20:55 UTC
bitch confirmed pregnant via vet at least 6: puppies  , been taking temperature for 1 week yesterday was day 63 and took her temp yesterday morning and it had dropped to 36.4 , was fine all day yesterday but sleeping a bit , appetite increased yesterday , infact ate a bowl full for the first time in weeks!

Took temp again last night and it had gone back to 37.4

Today is day 64 but still nothing no signs of labour just a little bit of heavy breathing ..

Am I stressing too early - she’s fine in all aspects ?.

Help please

Day 63 or 64 from what?  Unless you know when ovulation was (through progesterone testing) or you know when diestrus was (through cytology), you really have a very wide whelping window of about a week....

64 days from first mate

Took temp again this morning and back down to 37

She’s happy as Larry loving all the attention, I think if it wasn’t for temp drop Sunday I wouldn’t be so worried but looks like it’s dropped again this morning so maybe Sunday was a fluke

You'd find the temperature fluctuates, going up and down.   It's when it drops and stays down that you should be able to expect labour to start within 24 - 48 hours.    I counted from the first mating with mine, but it's when conception takes place that matters and that may not for immediately.    Again once labour starts, strong contractions and pushing hard but getting nowhere that I involve my vet.  Each delivery.  I'm afraid provided she's ok with no abnormally nasty discharge (or pushing!), you just have to sit it out.  I don't think a vet would tell you otherwise and I'd certainly not want to take a pregnant bitch in (stress/risk of infection) until things have really started.   Just clear any appointments you have so you, or somebody, is with her 24/7, for now.

Yes, so basically her eggs could have been fertilised as early as immediately after the first mating - or as late as 3-5 days after the 2nd (or last) mating.  You'll see that gives you quite a wide whelping window and makes it hard to know when to seek veterinary help or when you're facing inertia.  Learning how to do cytology ensures you can identify diestrus and then you have a whelping window of +/- 24 hours - whenever she ovulated.

Just to add, I'd NOT leave a bitch for much over 3 days with nothing happening.... after all the puppies will be continuing to grow, maybe making a C.Section more likely to be needed.
