This is my girls 3rd litter and our pups are 4 wks old. She seems fine in herself and is still being a great mum, but the last couple days she will eat her meals (quickly) then an hour or two later she will throw it up. Not every meal. Gave her some eggs about 2pm and she just ran outside and was sick. Don’t remember this from previous litters.

Is she throwing it up for the pups?  4wks is the age they would start to be weaned by and there may be strong biological instincts in her to throw it up for them...

But if she is running outside and away from them(?) maybe not...?

No she isn’t doing it in the pen, but that did cross my mind.. but surely she would stay in the box if that’s the reason.

She might be a bit confused - body is telling her to throw it up but she's not sure why or where? I used to try to keep my girl away from the puppies for a couple of hours after eating and that seemed to mostly stop it.

I agree, training not to barf indoors may be making her run outside.

Don't know about you but if I hear one of mine trying to be sick I get them outside pdg, as most dogs do quite a bit of wretching before throwing up.

I used to go with this - nothing like for how long a Basset will retch - plenty of time to get newspaper in front before it appears.   NOT SO with my current Basset who upchucks without very much prior warning at all.   Perhaps his stomach is located nearer where it comes from, than my home-breds!!

Poor dear may well be confused.com in terms of not upchucking indoors.    But then again what's going on could simply be she's eating up too fast (although if that bounced, it should come up pretty much immeduately?).    I guess time will tell if she has a slight gastric problem going on - this is a time of year when too many of us all, overindulge with rich food!

I've had bitches who'd regurgitate for their puppies, but again, that happened pretty soon after eating, not a couple of hours later.
